Thanks, Jeff! Glad to know that you're rooting for them, too. Travis taking Ben to a special place for a special moment was a huge step for him. Cheers - Mac

I'm rooting for them, too, Larry. If I caused you to tear up with this chapter, I won't apologize too much, because, to me, it means the story touched you, and that's a good thing. Thanks so much for following along and offering your comments. Cheers - Mac

Lisa, I will write you in as a dog-sitting character. Thanks for volunteering! Thanks also for the great review. I'm glad you're following along and enjoying the ride, even through the bumpy moments. Part of the purpose of Melanie's confusion and irritation is to illustrate the overall confusion and irritation that underlies the story in general, along with all of the characters involved. Everyone's feeling those emotions in one way or another, and she gives it a voice. Cheers - Mac

Hey Def, great review, thank you. I'm always happy to hear when readers say "I could picture that" or "I felt like I was there." That means a lot. Means I'm doing something to draw you into the moment, and I couldn't ask for a bigger compliment. Also, the fact that you blinked away tears made me smile - which sounds funny, but it's true. Cheers - Mac

Hi Graeme, thanks for your comments. It's a step in the right direction for these two, but by no means a smooth ride ahead, as I'm sure you know. Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate it. Cheers - Mac

Indeed, droughtquake - luckily, no helicopter, this time.

Hi Val, so glad you loved this chapter. There were definitely good moments, still with some underlying sadness and uncertainties, but perhaps a step in the right direction for these two. Yes, sunrises and sunsets out here are definitely breathtaking sometimes. I don't blame you for stopping to watch a sunset while driving - I've been known to do that, too! We should all take a moment when we can to admire the view. Cheers - Mac

Travis surprised Ben by nudging him awake before dawn. Groggy, still half-asleep, Ben squinted up at him, disbelieving the sight of him fully dressed, even his goddamn Sherpa-lined coat on. In Ben's mind, it had been mere minutes ago that they were naked and breathless and barely hanging onto the lingering euphoria of oral stimulation before drifting off to sleep. How was it the guy was now wide awake and pushing Ben to follow suit? “Come on,” Travis urged. He rubbed Ben's shoulder, care

Great chapter here, Hudson. So much more is revealed about both characters, and they can start to be honest together now that Ryan is a little more receptive to removing his mask. Erik seems to have a pretty good understanding of him. I think the "solution" he mentioned is a good one. Hopefully, Ryan will see it that way, too. Although, chances are high that he will still feel too much raw emotion through it, despite being on top. Anyway, the sunrise scene was great. This next chapter of mine has similar qualities to it. Thanks for a good read. Cheers - Mac

Glad you appreciated this chapter so much, Gary. Facades are crumbling. Feelings are coming to the surface. It's a powerful time, for both of them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it, it's very much appreciated. Cheers - Mac

Thanks, tim. It does give food for thought. Even if Travis means what he says, can he follow-through? Can Ben? We hope so.

You had me at moss for a mattress and cloud for a pillow... Who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to get lost in your writings, Gary? To be enveloped by words written on the wind? Very moving. And very sweet. We are fortunate to receive it.

This. This is what I love about your writing, tim. Damn, I got tears with this. A few smiles, too (the kindness of Isabella, the reveal of your first poem) but mostly tears. I don't know you at all, but through the stories and poems I've read of yours so far, I feel like I do know you. Or, at least, a part of me does; the compassionate part; the I-have-high-respect-for-you-as-a-writer-and-a-person part. Thanks for sharing this peek into the real world of tim.

I'm glad you liked this chapter, Lisa. Unlike most people, Ben does have the ability to slide on the masks of other people in order to hide himself. Plus, he gets paid well for doing it and has celebrity status to go along with it (which we know is a blessing a curse for him). Eventually, Audra and Bryan and Ben will be forced to talk out their differences; how it ends up is unknown right now. Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I appreciate it! Cheers-Mac

My brain cells just melted... But how very clever you are, Parker. The triangle, especially. I actually read the second poem out loud, just to have the pleasure of hearing the ridiculously-complicated words spoken. However, I'm sure I mispronounced every single one. Still, fun. And still, brain cells melted. My hat's off to you, sir!

Thanks again for the great comments, Geron. That means a lot coming from a seasoned writer such as yourself. There's quite a journey ahead, I hope you'll stay tuned in. Cheers - Mac

Hey Geron, thanks so much! I'm glad you stopped by to read. I appreciate your comments! Cheers - Mac

Hey Jeffrey, thanks for your comment. Yep, Travis can heat up a room - but more so when Ben's standing in it. ;-)

Hi Def, thanks for such great comments! The loaded sentence at the end is just that - loaded, and open for interpretation, giving Ben something to ruminate over. And the family tensions do need to be mended. No one wants to leave it lingering like this, but emotions are raw. Thanks again. Cheers - Mac

Thanks so much, Larry. I'm glad you don't find down-time in the story. I'd rather it keep moving along, twisting and turning as it goes. Who needs time to breathe? Haha. Cheers - Mac

Wow, what a great review, thank you Parker! Early on, a friend of mine thought the name Dissonance was a little too dissonant for a "love story", but now, having read a bunch of it, he's changed his mind. Anyway, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Despite the conflicts, there are flashes of peace and harmony in there - just harder to see. Cheers - Mac

Timothy, it's funny you mention that about 'Treading Water' because Val said the same thing when the name was mentioned in an earlier chapter. Then of course I had to go find Gary's story and read it, which I'm so very glad I did. You're right, Ben would be great in the role of Jared. It's a great story. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this chapter. The family dynamics are definitely strained, and there is mending to do. Cheers - Mac

It's not over yet, droughtquake. Hope you'll stay tuned to see how this relationship plays out. Thanks for reading and offering your comments!

Hi Graeme, thanks so much. Yes, Ben's acting career offers him respite from his own mind sometimes, and right now he wants that. The double entendre at the end you mentioned was two-fold: to give Travis opportunity to articulate feelings without actually saying them outright, and also to give Ben food for thought. Thanks again! Cheers - Mac

C S R Discussion Day: The Pledge By Mikiesboy
MacGreg commented on Cia's blog entry in Gay Authors News
I'm a bit late to the game on this, but I didn't want to miss out on responding about tim and The Pledge! I read it a few weeks ago, and what struck me the most about the story was not so much the plot (which was fantastic, I've always been a big Anne Rice fan) but the way in which tim developed the characters, the scenes, and the passage of time so adeptly for such a short story. As a writer, I'm not sure I could ever manage it. How were you able to do it? I'd have a tendency to want to flesh everything out. Although the period-drama aspect of The Pledge is certainly intriguing, I will say that some of my favorite stories and poems by you, tim, are those that are raw and honest and kind of punch me in the gut. That's just me.
