This was a really lovely chapter, I loved the song on you tube. The acceptance of Jon and Jim’s relationship with Jon’s parents was really special, a lot of Asian parents have difficulty in accepting that they have a gay son or daughter in the family and some outright reject their child’s partner as they expect them to marry the opposite sex and have children, they seem more Western than Asian in their thinking about their children. I see it with my own family one of my cousins came out late in life as a lesbian after having been married to a man and had 3 children, her and her sister don’t speak to each other and their dad is Malaysian and it’s difficult for him to understand that the girls don’t speak to each other anymore particularly when they were so close until the younger sister left her husband, and their relationship soured, it’s not homophobia, Lea can be very stubborn and headstrong she takes after her mother’s side of the family 😂
