Reading and how it influenced your writing

Totally agree, the TV series seemed to totally miss both the point and the tone of the original writing. -
I'me somehow reassured that this took the path I expected it would

Thanks very much, I like Scarlett too. Just don't tell Harvey (the cat that I live with) I said that . And as for more, let's finish this up first, but I promise there's a whole new world just waiting to be posted when we get there, which will likely be in a couple of weeks.

For you fellow Narnites (I don't know what else to term it) have you read The Magicians by Lev Grossman? It's a modern take which borrows heavily in paroncipe if not in tone. Definitely not in tone, it's pretty dark. I've seen people describing it as Harry Potter meets Narnia, but for grown-ups, but I think that completely misses the point. There was a TV series of it that I didn't much like, the book(s) are better. -
I used to use OneNote for that stuff, when I was writing in Word online, it was very easy having it all online. Now I use (or more accurately have, because I'm sure I only use a small percentage of it's functionality) Scrivener. The idea was to help with exactly this problem, keeping, sorting, and re-ordering those random extracts and ideas, which it's really good for. I just need to be better at writing the down in the first place.

You're absolutely right I'm sure. And I really don't want to forget what's going to happen in that scene for my next story that I've been imagining all bloody day for god knows what reason.

I feel that I really should get better at this. I'm terrible at writing stuff down when it comes to me.

I really didn't like reading at all, for a long time. I do have some memories of liking other people read to me when I was younger, but reading myself, not at all. A LOT of life happened just after my teens, which was also (co-incidentally? maybe not) also when I started to enjoy reading. I still remember how amazed I was re-reading the Narnia books, and realising what fiction was really capable of, until he got all religious towards the end there, but still. Now, I read whatever takes my interest. Currently it's Two Boys, At Swim, which is sort of beautiful in it's own way. I'm not sure how what I read influences my writing, other than in the general sense that more reading can only really be a good thing for a writer. -
Wow, thanks for those generous words. It's great to hear that you're enjoying the story, I hope the impending ending isn't too stressful for you

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this touching and moving story. Troy and Jayden are beautifully rounded, engaging, and interesting characters that I couldn't help but care about. I'm not going to spoil it if you haven't already read it, but it's a bumpy ride at times, which just seems to get more tense as things go on. Anyway, you'll see for yourself in the end, because you should definitely need read this. The only down side is that it just isn't long enough, having left me wanting more, although that's hardly a criticsm.

Hmmm, I wonder what it could all mean? Oh, wait, I know Thanks for reading, and liking, and commenting. Your feedback makes it all worth while.

Awesome - thanks @Ronyx !

Thanks - it's nice to know I have a fan

I find it best to try and manage expectations So I'm aiming for another couple next week, and the final one the week after. And after that... there'll be a whole new story.

I'm not sure 'I have no writing skills' really applies to someone who produces poetry. But I'm interested in your distinction, because I feel that all I do is tell stories, I just happen to write them down.
-
Most definitely, yes. I've got a couple of other stories already finished, and three or four that are at various stages of being 'in the middle of writing'. I'm actually taking a bit of time at the moment to finish stuff, do some re-editing, and get stories posted before I start on with new projects. A bit of mental housekeeping. The only potential flaw in the plan is that sometimes, characters just seem to appear in my head, and the only way to get them out is to write their story.

My Dad had left an envelope for me at work, which I hadn't opened before I saw him again the following night. We exchanged a few words, but it was awkward, difficult, and just generally weird. Had I read the letter? No. Would I? I don't know. How can he contact me again? We you know where I fucking work don't you? That sort of thing. He had a lot of other questions too, but I wasn’t able to get into any of it with him. Becky was trying to be really supportive, as was Frank, but I don't

Hell no, I'm very happy where I am, particularly now that I've found a little 'home' on the internet for my writing to exist.
-
Sorry, no, as far as I can tell, there is no hope of recovery
-
So, I haven't checked this, but has GA evolved a lot from when it started?
-
Well if it's good enough for the newly minted Promising Author, it's good enough for me. Maybe my darker side should be allowed to escape
-
Yes, I think I know what you mean. Knowing that there are engaged readers, as well as other writers is quite exciting.

Nifty was my first introduction to gay fiction, and yeah, there's a wide range of stuff out there
