I really haven’t! But logically, it will probably be the finished one. It’s still a good story.

I’m still trying to decide between a finished but possibly not super-exciting, and an in-progress but (at least personally) more interesting character.

Thanks for you comments, and I like the way that you label this as your first rant, so I'll be expecting more In response - I'm aware that Cal's grammar is far from perfect. Much like my own. I have sometimes found it hard to determine the right balance between what is 'correct' and what is believable/in line with what you'd expect to hear from a character. Although in this specific example, I wouldn't go with your suggestion because it steps out of the first person narrative of the story. Which isn't to say I don't appreciate your attention to details such as this, there's always room for improvement. I hope you enjoy how story plays out.

It's Friday, I've just got home from work, the weekend has started

Hi I don’t know if this will work, but I thought I’d experiment anyway. I’m based in the UK, and whilst that’s OK in many ways (we’re not getting in to politics here), one of the downsides is that it feels like most people here on GA are just not awake during the hours that I’m around. One of the implications of this is that there’s not much chatting going on. So I was wondering if anyone is in a similar place? I’m not around during every waking moment or anything, but I check in when I can, so it would be good to know if anyone else is around too. Also - I’m really not anticipating a lot of chat about the GMT time zone specifically, or any other one for that matter Although stranger things (by far) have happened. I just like passing the time with people, particularly if they don’t mind a sometimes weird/dark sense of humour, moderate flippancy, and a good handful of opinions. So maybe I’ll hear from people, I’ll not take it (too) personally if not. Sam

I'm pleased you've enjoyed it. And yes, you're most likely right. Most things aren't as simple to move past or deal with as just binning one letter. But I like to imagine that Cal now has enough good people in his life to make that process a bit easier.

Thanks very much As for being draining, I don't think that's the right word. There's hopefully no pretence that my writing is altruistic, I get a lot out of it too. Although some characters really do manage to get inside you, like Cal, and that can sometimes be a little annoying. There's more to come, but I think I'll leave it until next week until I start posting something different.

Thanks for your comments, and you're probably right, it might be a bit rushed. This was my first time writing fiction so I think I've learnt a lot along the way. However I also remain paranoid about boring readers with extraneous details and lengthy scenes that add little or nothing to the story, or giving readers every time thing and leaving no room for imagination, so I guess I'm still trying to find the balance that works for me. There's another story coming soon so you'll be able to judge for yourself.
