  1. Good day, all! Another mainly cloudy, but dry day here. Just got back from the shopping trip I had talked about doing yesterday, so kitchen now stocked again with fresh produce. Yesterday I shared a photo with you all that I had taken on my 65th birthday, so today here's one I took a year later on my 66th... Have a great day, everyone!
  2. So I just have to share this video:
  3. I wouldn't dream of telling you that. And are you really telling me you weren't nuts long before I brightened up your life!? Anyway... Val will be happy. There were no tiny puke balls or any devilish fungi in my meal this time.
  4. I had baked potatoes, chopped up and mixed with a nob of butter and 2 diced hard boiled eggs, along with a chopped up tomato, with grated cheddar on top and half a tin of baked beans. And a slice of my banana bread for afters. Filled me up, and didn't need any fancy recipe. Nothing shaved, madolined, shredded, julienned or matchsticked. Oh! And the potatoes were white, not purple (Not that I'm in any way colour prejudiced.)
  5. More strange words from across the pond to confuse me.
  6. Hi, Gary. Hope your day's going well.
  7. Hi, Albert. All good with you and Steve?
  8. Good day, everyone! Another cool day here in Ireland. Mostly cloudy, although we are promised a little sun. I might turn over another few rows of soil for my new vegetable garden in the evening, but first I intend to do some very covidiot-free shopping for a few essential items of fresh produce and other groceries. I'm also slowly moving items from my rented accommodation to my new, old house, as I intend giving my landlord his month's notice towards the end of the week. The monthly automatic transfer of the rent from my bank to his is due next Monday, so I will let him know that once that payment has been made I will log into my online banking and cancel the Standing Order. In the meantime, here's a photo I took when I was out hillwalking on my 65th birthday getting on for 8 years ago:
  9. I'm away to my bed, gang! Be safe, all. A little night music for you all:
  10. Oh! A slicer!
  11. There you both go... Confusing me again... How the flipping heck can you shave a Brussel sprout with a stringed musical instrument?
  12. I'm suspecting you mean shredded Brussels sprouts... So why don't you just call them that, for f'sake? Jimminy-cricket! You Americans with your strange terms...
  13. I must admit that I've never seen a hairy Brussel sprout.... But I'm wondering whether one needs a special type of razor in order to shave one.
  14. *pst* [sotto voce] We'll have to do more peas next time, Albert,
  15. Val doesn't know what she's missing!
  16. So, of course, I just have to share this (one of my favourite songs from the psychedelia era): 🎶 When the men on the chessboard get up and tell you where to go And you've just had some kind of mushroom, and your mind is moving low... Go ask Alice, I think she'll know! 🎶
  17. Not necessarily.... (And not that I am suggesting anyone tries eating it...) Commonly called Fly Agaric (Scientific name: Amanita muscaria), the Russians (amongst others) consider it a delicacy. "Apparently most people eat only the caps or the very young buttons. They must be boiled in a large volume of water for a period of time, and then you need to toss out that water. After that, most cultures will either fry them like normal mushrooms, or pickle them, or preserve them in oil; I happen to know that a certain set of Italians do this. The Japanese around Nagano eat Amanita muscaria as pickles, as do the Lithuanians, Finns and Russians." (Source: https://honest-food.net/eating-santas-shroom/) Make sure to toss out the water - it contains toxins that have been leached out of the mushrooms. It is also hallucinogenic, and is widely considered to have been the hallucinatory ‘shroom responsible for Alice’s trip into Wonderland. As I said, I wouldn't advise anyone trying this (indeed I considered putting most of the above inside spoiler tags...)
  18. Here' a few more mushrooms... *evil grin*
  19. The Westminster Government changed its advice to “stay at home” in favour of advice to “stay alert” last night... Please remember the No Politics rule if you decide to reply.
  20. Not if I eat it first.
