  1. For dinner tonight I am preparing oven roasted potatoes and swede (rutabaga), steamed cabbage, and scrambled egg. All the vegetables are from my own garden.
  2. To possibly give you a better idea as to where these two stone sheds are in relation to the lower portion of the garden, and the old stone cottage, here's a photo I also took today, this time from the back wall of my dwelling house. The white wall on the right is the gable end of the two story stone cottage.
  3. For some reason that comment reminded of one of the many bawdy songs that we used to sing in the communal bath after a match when I used to play amateur Rugby Union for my local town many years ago. The particular song was called An Engineer Told Me Before He Died. It's really very crude, so be warned should you decide to listen to it in the following YouTube Video...
  4. Page 2059... Makes me think back to the year 1959. That was the year I finished primary school and started grammar school.
  5. I think if we're going to start using the term Grandpa, it would be a more fitting term to use to describe yourself than me, Gary...
  6. Greetings, young Drew!
  7. Hi, Leo!
  8. Well it rained overnight and for a while this morning, which delayed any garden work. And then I was hosting a 2 hour Zoom session in the early afternoon, which was a bit disappointing as the sun decided to shine about five minutes into it. I did manage to get about 90 minutes work done before it got dark, and can now see many of the slates on the second shed. Here's a photo I took shortly before dark showing the two sheds quite clearly: I'm thinking that I shall shortly have to take the ladder into next door's garden and continue cutting from that side...
  9. What Gary said.
  10. Greetings, Albert!
  11. Something for Albert to think about:
  12. He does, indeed, B. I really think he should learn to show a bit of respect for his elders.
  13. Speak for yourself, Albert
  14. And... Continuing with the computer related jokes...
  15. Why isn't there a Groan reaction available in GA for people's comments? https://media.tenor.com/images/a4ec68cca56d922d97fc0f8eeadc460d/tenor.gif
  16. Greetings, young Drew!
  17. I wish I still had abs like those! Although....
  18. I wish I was 30 years younger, as I'd probably get through all this work an awful lot more quickly! Still, I can't complain. I've surprised myself this past year with just what I have been able to do. I think I commented on here early last summer, when I finally got the jungle in my upper garden cleared, and my vegetable plot turned over, that I hadn't been sure when I started in on that work whether I was able for it at my age. Nope, Sherye, I genuinely am 73 years old (and will be 74 later this year).
  19. Cheers, Page! Now if only I could find the same motivation for all the inside work that needs doing...
  20. Greetings, Page!
  21. You do realise that several people here are going to deliberately, and completely, twist your choice of words there, I assume..?
  22. So today, I decided to work from the other side of the two sheds. The main reason for that was because the second shed still has its slate roof under all the overgrowth, but I suspect the timbers underneath may not be too sound, so I really don't want to try standing on it Currently, the doorway into that shed is blocked up, partly with ivy, and also with unmortared six inch (15cm) thick concrete blocks, which means I can't inspect the underside of the roof. I'll decide when I have everything cleared away whether the roof is sound or not. If the roof has to be removed, I hope to salvage the slates themselves without damaging them. If they're not going to be used to re-roof that shed, they may come in useful for repairing the roof of the old cottage (which is also slated). Although I have a number of slates that I rescued from the other stone shed that could be used for the cottage. Here's a photo I took of my progress just before dusk this evening, in which some of the slates are now visible.
