This is a great poem. It sent chills over my skin. Thanks for the snapshot of your perspective.

    Chapter 3

Thanks for all of the comments, folks. I appreciate you all. 🙂

    Chapter 3

Hahaha. Yes, indeed. He's in his early twenties, and everything is firing on all cylinders in that respect. Add to it the feeling that he "can't" have Paul, makes him want it all the more.

    Chapter 3

Thursday morning arrived in a swirl of snow and wind. Corbin's alarm woke him at six AM to a wintery scene outside his windows, and he shivered in the crisp air inside his home. The fire had died down to embers over the night, and he threw back his blankets then quickly put on his sweats and sweater. He had worn his wool socks to bed, and they stayed on his feet. "Fuck me it's cold!" He couldn't quite see his breath inside, but it was close. He went to the fireplace and poked at the ashes an

Thanks, Carlos. Specifically, thank you for the message with the link with the writer's guide to numbers. It's very helpful.

    Chapter 2

Paul is a great neighbor. Who wouldn't want a fella like him nearby?

We just might find out! 😄

    Chapter 2

Ohhhh yeah. Small town social network is alive and well in Hailey, Idaho! 🙂
  9. This short is an excellent start to an exciting world. It's a bit cruel to leave us wanting more, which is, I suppose the mark of a good tale. 🙂

    Chapter 2

Corbin stood with one hand on the half-open door and stared at the tall man on his porch. The man was bundled from the cold and looked down at him. He was over 6' tall. He had piercing green eyes and bore a closely cropped but thick black beard. "Howdy neighbor," he said in a deep bass voice and smiled. The man shifted the strap of the rifle on his shoulder and stuck out his hand. "I'm Paul, from up on the ridge." Corbin blinked and swallowed in the half-opened doorway. "Uh, how, how did

    Chapter 1

Thanks! The only real bits I plan to change are to clean things up a bit and try to wordsmith a little more as I post chapters. It seems every time I read a chapter I find something new to fix!

    Chapter 1

Hi Carlos. I agree with you on the cabin detail. The funny thing is that overall, I know that detail is where I need to work and spend more time. I often leave too much to the imagination, so this very first bit was a stab at "fixing" that issue. I slack way off on it down the line, as you'll see later in the story. The errors bother ME. I will slowly edit them out as I find the time, and as I locate them again. I didn't realize how many there were until I hadn't read it for a while. Now that I can see them again, I can't simply leave them there. More, though, there are other issues in the work itself that I need to resolve. Frankly, I'm better than I used to be. 🙂

Thank you. Seems like a fine place to write, and get feedback. I dig it. More's coming.

    Chapter 1

Thanks! Corbin is trying pretty hard to be an island. Though you may be right about the solitary comment - time will tell. 🙂

    Chapter 1

Thanks! I've edited a tiny bit more. I might have to take the red pen to this one, hard. I keep finding stuff that bothers me. A year of writing every day after writing "Guarded" now means I've got a different standard.

Thanks. More to come, for sure. 😊

    Chapter 1

Corbin got out of the old pick-up and looked around. He shut the truck door, and it protested with a squeal of metal, but there was no one about to disturb. He was six miles west of Hailey Idaho, and he may have found the object of his search. The mid-day sun was welcome and pushed back on the chill carried by the wind. April in Hailey was not known for its warmth, and he was thankful he had done his research on the weather there. He pulled the collar up on his thick coat against the biting

    Guarded

Corbin has been a man on the run. Finally, he settles down in rural Idaho, far from his old life, ready to start anew. But, some things, simply can't be left behind.
  19. Hello all. Wayne here. I've been told I should become a member here by some readers on Nifty. I write stuff. Sometimes it's worth reading. 🙂 Looking forward to getting to know the site.
