Yes, Dylan is definitely worthy of being your spirit animal. I knew his response to Seb would brush people the wrong way, but it was designed to point to his kind-hearted nature and the contrast between the way he’s potentially willing to treat Liam’s friends vs Liam himself. He was polite with Seb and kept his distance, but while Liam broke down in tears in front of him, our boy remained cold-hearted and deaf to his words. Thank you! I loved end scene too, lots of emotions writing it.

It’s been six days since he showed his face at the school. Liam Henderson went missing in action, skipping phone calls from his friends, ignoring messages and eliminating his presence on social media. The most annoying part was how big of a deal it was to everyone. A guy decides to ditch school for a week to have fun, and minions go loosing their minds as though all roads lead to his door. “I heard he crashed his Camaro,” Elle said, biting on a soggy french fry and squinting at the taste.

Thank you! Trying my best 😄 As to hiccups in the story logic, I see what you mean, this wouldn’t really be plausible in real life and I knew it when I wrote this. I can insinuate that wealthy parents and corrupt school administration, coupled with the lack of legal action from Dylan and his mother have something to do with this, but ultimately this would have to be one of the tripping stones in the story - take it with a grain of salt, as they say. 😅

Thank you for the comment! I completely agree with things not making sense here. That is an issue of having a single person POV - we don’t really know what is going on in Sebastian’s head and why she seems so hurt when he was acting like a douche bag this whole time. Can this be because he’s not used to rejection and he’s so sad about his hurt ego? Or maybe he actually felt something for Dylan in these few months, it wasn’t shallow and he genuinely felt bad? People lose their touch with reality sometimes when they’re in love, but to answer your question - I do think that every single person who physically hurts and assaults people for their own pleasure has a mental disorder - so following that logic both Liam and Sebastian are included in this. As for Liam, I don’t think he really blamed himself much in that first chapter. I think he said something like, “I didn’t give a f*ck about him, his pain was just a collateral damage”, there was a glimpse of possible remorse, but he was far away from actually feeling any measurable guilt for his actions. As to why he’s surprised about Dylan’s rejection - Liam spent past 3 years surrounded by shallow people that desensitized him to many things, including gravity of his actions and their consequences. That is at the root of why Dylan is so infuriated with his expectations and lack of insight (“His ignorance only fueled my anger“). At this point all we have is Dylan’s world view, he’s constrained by it and we really have no way of knowing what is driving Liam and how he justifies his expectations. Conveniently for me, I will never write another chapter from his POV😂. #badwriting

True, I agree. The thing about those, especially in high school, sometimes they grow out of it and have to face the consequences. In fact, most of them grow out of it, I believe. Redemption is a totally different aspect though, that is something almost none of them get. You think there’s something Liam can do to repent his sins? I honestly don’t.

Jake tormented me with questions as we drove to my house. ‘Who was it? How do you know him? Why did he freak you out? Does he hurt you at school?’ I never really told him about Liam. Never thought it was necessary. Jake knew I had a crush on a straight guy a few years ago, it wasn’t a big deal for him and I never got too specific. Yes, Liam’s actions did affect friendship between Helen (Dylan’s mom) and Emma (Liam’s mom). As to consequences from Liam’s parents, who knows? Sometimes if a kid is destined to turn into a nasty turd, there’s little that parents can do. Rest assured though, future chapters will explore what happened there.
