@drsawzall Good point. In the rewrite I’m thinking of having JJ sent to a Russian government facility instead, retrofitted to neutralize his powers, where they study him like the US government did Travis. And in the next book he’ll meet other kids with powers there and they’ll eventually break out and free the kids from Hell World. thoughts/comments?

Skylar wrapped her cloak tight, shivering. “How much longer?” “Just a bit further,” JJ said, hoping he was right. They had been walking for hours and though he didn’t let on, he was scared they’d been going in circles. “Let’s take a break.” He extended his forcefield around them, giving them some reprieve from the harsh Siberian winds and snow. Kwame distributed the agreed upon rations while JJ started a fire. He removed a pan they’d stolen from the kitchen, packed it with snow, then s

Ben finished making two cocktails for the gruff Nekoshin at the bar, then checked on his food. The cooks were scrambling to fill the orders, all ten of their prehensile appendages a blur as they cooked a different dish. He grabbed the plate of rouka'rui (|roo| |kah|' |roo| }ee|), a meat steak with spicy red sauce poured over it, and he told the cooks he’d be back to expedite the other orders. He plopped the dish before the Nekoshin. “That’ll be fifteen kin and twenty cennie.” “What a rip o

Lord Abraxas tossed the gold platter against the wall. Ten years and his Hommes D'Ombre had yet to track Travis down. He’d spent countless souls on the search for the boy, yet time and time again they’d found nothing. Even tracking spells using Travis’s blood had come up short, which made him believe someone or something was blocking his location. Only two conditions could cause such a thing. Either the object being tracked was dead or had claimed sanctuary. And he refused to believe

Loki elected to teach Travis the ways of The Order of Eternal Night, beginning with how to construct a proper altar, which materials to use, where to position it for maximum effect, and the ritual for consecrating it, which involved slaughtering an unbaptized child and coating the altar in its blood. Travis remained stone-faced as Loki slit the newborn's throat, but inside he wanted to rip him apart. Calm down. We must bide our time until we’re stronger. Then we can bring them to account.

Travis fought back his disgust at the sight of the Razor Walkers. He sliced through them with plasma blade as he moved deeper into the musty cave. Human and demon bones were strewn about along with half-decayed corpses. The sight and stench of it all was enough to make him retch. After composing himself, he ventured onward. The cave was much larger on the inside, and it wound this way and that, almost like it was growing at will. Thinking it best to conserve his energy, he switched to

JJ waited for another roach to skitter past and thrust his hand out. “Damn it!” he whispered when he zapped the roach instead of encasing it in a forcefield like he’d planned. He tried again when another roach passed. Scrunching his face in concentration, he stuck out his hand, slowly this time, and a ball of white light enveloped the roach. Phase one complete, he moved on to levitating it. After several failed attempts, JJ got the hang of it and moved on to rats, then himself. With a lot o

Pro, now going by Ben, chugged his glass of mido, ordered a double, downed both, then joined the rest of the gamblers at the polf table. No’mol’s (|noh|’ |mahls|) was one of the more high-end bars he’d been in since he left the med unit. A man—well, snake of his word—Massasauga had gotten him sprung from Dysopolis and set him up with money, an apartment, and a legit IFP ID. He’d debated over what name to use on his ID and settled on Ben’nudeus Xivroc (|behn|’ |new| |dee| |us| |shiv|

Lord Abraxas looked over the reports from the treasury, General Caladen, and the Farmers’ Guild, frowning. If he didn’t reverse course and end Eris for good, the kingdom would be destitute in a matter of decades. Against his better judgement, he met with Ariel, leader of the Hanakans. Their clandestine rendezvous took place under starlight, and he had little hope of forging an alliance with them, given Rose’s past contempt toward them. He and his small retinue stood on one side of the encam

Stooping under a tree branch, Travis followed the Soul Catchers as they journeyed deeper into the forest in search of humans. They’d been walking for hours, and though each step sent shards of pain through his throbbing feet, he was glad they hadn’t found anyone yet. Including himself, there were six members of the hunting party, and the leader was a gruff demon named Lerajie (|leh| |rah| |jhe|) who went by Jie for short. They continued walking another fifteen minutes when Jie let o

@drsawzall True, but things will get better for him soon when he learns to travel by electrical/phone lines. Also, heads up to you and the other readers: there are 41 chapters total in this book, so we’re nearing the end. I haven’t started drafting the next in the series yet so there’ll be a wait until it’s ready. However, the working title is The Fourth Prince.

@drsawzall More bounty hunters, a drug kingpin, and his daughter whom Pro gets caught hooking up with.

Within Travis’s mindscape, he fought against Lip, who was attempting to enthrall him. His red energy beam met Lip’s blue one and they squared off. Lip’s beam inched forward, pushing him backward. “Damn it!” He dug in his heels, willing his beam forward. For a second it seemed like he’d won, but Lip redoubled his efforts and had Travis flat on his ass. When he came to in the real world, his head felt like it would explode. He wiped the blood from his nose and readied himself for Lip’s n

JJ narrowed his eyes at the guard, looking for any excuse to try out his powers. The guard sneered. “You want I beat you? His hand hovered over his shock baton, the corners of his mouth quirking up into a malicious smile. He gave JJ a final glance before grabbing the shock baton and jabbing it at him. JJ pretended to be startled, then sent the electricity back at the guard, amplifying it with his powers. The guard thudded to the ground, smoke rising from his burnt corpse. The sight and s

Sweat getting in his eyes, Pro paused doing push-ups to wipe his brow. Sighing, he resumed working out. “Ninety-eight . . . ninety-nine . . . one hundo! Your turn.” Ke’nu got off Pro’s back and they switched positions, and when he was done, they played a few rounds of various card games. Then Ke’nu taught him the next Omnivox symbol and a new word; he taught him English in exchange. While his neural-com was good for translating most speech, it could only translate short passages of text, w

Jeremy's Story and Derek Comes Clean
frozenphenix commented on Lee Wilson's story chapter in Jeremy's Story and Derek Comes Clean
Love your story so. Is Jeremy an alter ego Bryson’s mind created to protect him following the trauma he experienced after coming out to his dad? And if so, did the head injury from the roof collapsing on him cause him to revert to the Bryson persona and hence the “amnesia”? -
Lord Abraxas massaged his forehead as Lip went over the latest reports from the battlefield. “While Eris’s forces have retreated on our eastern borders, a century carrying their battle flag was spotted heading for Snapdragon. Moreover, there have been reports of more raiding parties from Necron moving toward our southern borders. If Necron and Eris have joined forces—” “I know what that means! Inform General Caladen to sure up our forces on the southern border and send an entourage to Hanak

@drsawzall Good points. I’ll incorporate them into the next draft. Thanks 🙂.

As Travis approached, Abe Blitz-Stepped away. Snarling, he turned, sending a hex his way. Abe deflected it with a protection ward, a blue hexagram with alchemical symbols at each of its points, and cast a bone breaking hex on Travis. He paused a second before laughing. Abe’s mouth hung open as Travis released his aura. “Foolish boy.” Abe created a Diamond Rose whip and attacked. Though Travis would have liked to settle things civilly, the rational part of his brain was overwhelmed b

@drsawzallIt'll last several paragraphs and neither Travis nor Abe will hold back. However, Travis will also be fighting his demon side, so yeah drama will abound.

Travis was having a steamy dream about Josh when Lip roused him from bed. He rubbed his eyes, vison blurry. “Tempus.” 4:00 AM flashed and he groaned. “Too early.” He rolled over and pulled his blanket over himself. That lasted all of a minute before Lip soaked him with an ice-water charm. “Aw!” He hopped out of bed, cast a drying spell on himself, and followed Lip to the dining hall for a quick breakfast of fried eggs and potatoes. Lip sat next him and slid Travis a bottle of brown liq

@drsawzall No, but interesting idea . Basically, without being too spoilery, JJ is part demon and his powers have been sealed until now.

JJ’s grip on the phone tightened. “How can you let them torture me like this?” “Son,” his mom began, “this is for your own good.” “Do you have shit for brains? I just told you they starve and beat me on the daily, when they aren’t frying my nuts.” “Joshua,” his dad cut in, “you will not take that tone with us. And if you continue using such vulgarity, we won’t fill your commissary account and end this call.” “Are you even listening to me? This place is hell. I demand to come

Pro waited in the interrogation room, the urs ticking away. This is some ole bullsh— Massasauga came into the room looking pressed. “Sorry for the wait. I do have an update on your case.” Pro perked up. “And?” “While we sort out whether you are the Prince of Aves and the last of your kind . . .” He paused, a sadness in his reptilian eyes. “You’ll be housed in protective custody at Dysopolis. We’re chartering an emergency shuttle that should be here within the hour.” He shot f

Lord Abraxas was busy in his bedchambers reviewing missives from his spies in Eris. He massaged his forehead as he thought. Somehow Balder, Loki, and Thor had learned of Travis’s transformation and were certain this was a sign of his being the Vessel. Moreover, while his people had located the demon who contracted the Cruciati Demons, she’d turned out to be a simple soul-monger, who in turn had been hired by someone matching Heliconia’s description. But this made no sense. Why wouldn’t Hel
