@Restolock Thanks. We're hitting the middle of the story and shortly the boys will finally get together. Scout's honor 😄

When Josh showed up at St. Michael’s the next day, he had a sickly pallor and bloodshot eyes. “You look horrible,” Travis said as Josh slipped on an apron and hairnet. “Thanks,” he said, his words dripping with sarcasm. “I feel a million times worse.” Josh rubbed his forehead and got to work scrubbing pans while Travis mopped the floors. He tried engaging the ginger teen throughout the day, but Josh waved him off, saying they’d talk about it later. The day passed without event, an

@drsawzall Give the man a break. He almost got crushed. As for the sleepover, let’s just says it goes well, save a minor slip of the temper on Travis’s part.

JJ slumped into the puffy overstuffed chair and got comfortable. Dr. Dull set a timer on his phone and got out his legal pad and JJ’s folder. “I’m ready whenever you are, Joshua.” Cringing, JJ started in about the latest almost-kiss with Travis when Dr. Dull interrupted him. “While that’s fascinating, how are you doing?” He paused in thought. “I guess I’m mad that Travis keeps—” Dr. Dull tutted. “Stick to yourself.” JJ sighed. “This summer has been kinda hard on me.

@Dan South He saw her and Agent Anderson hooking up.

@Mattyboy Said healing powers were exhausted tethering him to life after he was severely burned escaping the government holding facility. They like his other powers are slowly returning but aren’t strong enough to heal his lungs, yet. Thanks for commenting and I hope you continue to enjoy the story.

@Mattyboy Yes, adults are useless (mostly) in this story.
-
@Mattyboy Yes, but for good reason.

After Josh made introductions, they congregated in the living room to decide what they would do. Travis sat next to Josh on the loveseat, while Brianna and Rachel sat next to Matt and Henry on the sofa sectional. Lance opted to sit in the overstuffed chair by the big screen TV. “I say we game,” Matt said. Henry and Lance seconded the idea, and the girls sighed. Brianna shook her head, her twisty braids whipping around her face. “Naw. We ain’t spending all day inside watching you d-bags

@drsawzall Mayhaps. Though, he does get handsy with David and Jason 😉.

Travis’s probation officer flipped through the file in her manilla folder and cleared her throat. “Since this is your first altercation, I’m considering giving ya a warning. But given the severity of your actions, I wouldn’t be doing my job if I let you slide on hurting your brother.” While inside, he was scared shitless, Travis kept a cool demeanor, schooling his face into a blank slate. “What’s the verdict?” She eyed him sideways. “Depends on two things. Are you sorry for what you did?”

@Dan South I can’t take credit for that one. I heard it used throughout high school/college. @drsawzall Oh, just you want till next chapter.

JJ slumped in his chair, slipped off his sandals, and wiggled his toes into the microfiber area rug. “Care to tell me your recollection of events?” “He came over, we did your assignment, and it got boring asking each other questions, so I suggested we play Never Have I Ever. That turned into Truth or Shots, and next thing I know, he’s going in for a kiss. Then he backs away like I smacked him or something, and the kid’s ghost.” “Hmm," Dr. Dull said when JJ had finished. “And what

@drsawzall They’re aware but too busy working to focus on it. And he has months to a year left and his health will get progressively worse as the story progresses until his palingenesis.

Travis mechanically washed and dried kitchenware, ignoring everyone around him as he stewed over last night’s events. Why do parents have to be such bastards? It’s not as if I hurt Bobby. And besides, the brat deserved it. “Kid, we both know you’re full of it. You could have killed him.” But I didn’t. “Still, ya crossed a line.” As if I need a lecture from you, too. Bye. Travis pictured walls rising in his mind and locked Prometheus in a cage. Prometheus raged, but his voice fa

@drsawzall Yeah Dr.Dull is instrumental in Travis accepting his feelings for JJ, getting him to see he isn’t always right and that letting people in isn’t a weakness. @Restolock it’ll be several more chapters before Travis accepts his feelings for JJ, and it’ll involve a kiss at a party. @Dan South Thanks. There’ll be more of his poems in later chapters.

Aiming his stick at a Wendy’s wrapper, Travis stabbed it, placing it in his bag with the others. The sun was high in the clear sky, and the breeze from the cars rushing by was a welcome reprieve from the heat. He’d been at it since seven o’clock, arms and legs tired from walking the park. It was mind-numbing but easy work, and it gave him time to think about what had happened last night. He remembered talking with Giovanni—no, Josh—and then everything went fuzzy for a bit, and he found hims

@drsawzall Lol. Middle school is hell, right?

When JJ arrived home, he checked his phone and found a voice mail from his parents saying they’d be home next Tuesday, and they expected his room to be clean. Grumbling under his breath, he gathered trash bags and gloves and set to work. First, he picked up all the trash on his floor. Then he cleaned under his bed, cringing when he found a moldy slice of pizza and crusty socks. After he’d gathered up all his dirty clothes and placed them in his hamper, he swept the floor and took the trash out.

Travis was so close to Giovanni, he could smell the alcohol mixed with his minty breath. A few more millimeters, and their lips would touch. And then he stopped. He pulled back, running from the room as the other boy called after him. In that moment, he wanted to be home more than anything. A tingle ran up his spine, and then liquid warmth enveloped him. When it passed, he was back in his room. A wave of nausea hit him hard, and he rushed to the trash can and vomited. He cleaned himse

Travis took a swig of vodka, trying not to show how much it hurt going down, and passed the bottle to Giovanni as they reclined on his bed. “Never have I ever participated in a circle jerk.” Giovanni’s face went red, and he reached for the bottle. “Care to explain?” “That wasn’t part of the game.” Travis laughed. “Who’s scared now?” He faltered a moment before a resolute look came over his face. “Fine if I tell ya, then the rules of the game change.” “I’m listening,

@drsawzall A new wrinkle. Specifically, Joan and Dylan are human-demon hybrids, and Travis is seeing them how they look when their demon side takes over.
-
@VBlew perhaps. The next chapter is the moderation cue, so you should know in a day or two.

JJ opened the door, smiling as he tried to tamp down his nervous energy. “Hey,” he said, acting all suave, until his damp hair got in his face, ruining his façade. Travis smirked. “Just got out of the shower, huh?” JJ nodded, his cheeks warming with embarrassment. “Yeah. I kind of forgot the time. Lost in thought, ya know?” “You use your right or left hand for that?” It took him a second to get what Travis was implying, and he groaned. “Come inside before my nosy neighbors ge
