I know I've already left a comment, but in retrospect I forget a strong part of this chapter that impacted me. Jubal's NEED to get the cabin finished. As a man that makes a living with his 2 bare hands, rancher & general contractor, this really hit home for me. It wasn't until I read everyone's comments that I realized I wasn't the only one who was moved by this. Like Jubal, I don't really show emotion. It's not healthy, (so I've been told) , but it's who I am and I don't express my emotions that way.....I build things. If I'm with someone and they see something in a store that they love, I take note and if I can get it done in time, I make it. One of my closest friends saw horseshoe Turkeys and Pumpkins on etsy, I made them for her (my buddy is a horse shoer (farrier)) so once I got the used shoes I cleaned em up and ended up TIG'n (Tungsten Inert Gas Welding) a beautiful cross made of horseshoes and horshoe nails for my exe. I do ornamental iron work as well and I'm a certified welder. I built my father pipe corrals. Remodeled my folks house for my ma. The point is, I may not SAY I Love You, but I always SHOW it. This is what Jubal is doing. He can't say the words, but he can take the time to show it, and time my friends, is the most valuable commodity, we are all only given a certain amount. How we use it is our choice. Jubal chose to pour his heart and soul into something that will stand the test of time for nothing more than a smile from the one he cares for. That right there is unconditional love

I agree. Once a hole has been dug, it's hard to fill it back. Generally cuz half the dirt done blown away..... Conner gives unconditional love. Soren is afraid of love. At some point they have to learn that honesty, patience, and forgiveness are key to a lasting relationship. Never go to bed angry.......

It's amazing how life's triumphs can give you energy. A drive to see things through to completion. Add love into that mix and instead of a shelter, you get a home. I believe this is where Jubal is right now. He has turned Luke's place into a home. I think Lucas will be overjoyed. I feel bad for them boys, as a gay rancher I know the troubles that exist in this day and age, back then it was 100 times worse. However Jubal and Lucas seem to have a fighting chance. Well done Gary. Beautifully written as always! Now I have to wait another damn week.....

Another fine tale from @Headstall . A spin off from Larkspur and absolute MUST READ!!!!! Gary, you have once again outshown yourself. This is an epic masterpiece of words, as per usual of your writing style. Even mid move (Southern Oklahoma to South Texas) I had to stop and read the newest chapter. You Sir are a Showman of Words **Tips Hat** P.S., My horses are already moved and the current heartthrobs of the neighborhood 😁

A beautiful story about overcoming & surviving abuse, neglect, and molestation. I say beautiful because this is a survivors story, not a victims. The obstacles overcome are heart wrenching. Yet you find that happily ever is always possible if you stay the course. This is a MUST READ!!! The author creates a thought provoking tale, with ups & downs, twists & turns, that keep you on the edge of your seat right to the very end.

I've always believed everything happens for a reason. This tale solidifies that. My 1st boyfriend and I were together for 8 yrs, and like this story, he was a city boy & I'm a country boy. We grew apart, we were young. At 1st it was rough, but 25 yrs later we are friends. We don't regret our past, we were just meant to share part of our lives together while bigger things were building Is Andrew the villain or is he the savior by recognizing his truth? That is left to interpretation. However, in this thought provoking story, Gary has once again shown his ability to capture love, loss, and rebirth. Well done & a must read 👏

A beautiful story about loss and rebirth. It makes you realize how much our past can influence our future, how one misinterpreted memory can effect how we lead our lives. Sometimes the truth isn't what it seems and letting go can lead you to the ultimate truth where you can find peace and learn to live again. Gary you did an incredible job on this piece. Your ability to capture the intimate nuances of loss and grief, of moving forward and healing, made me search my own soul and wonder how many misconceptions have I perceived in my life. This was a beautiful and truly relatable story. Thank you my friend

Very sorry for your loss Gary, I lost Lark at 29, 2 months before her 30th birthday, a few years ago. I bought her when she was 2 and I was 13. We raised each other, she was my best friend growing up, and we loved an trusted each other. She took her last breath with her head in my lap. Her registered name was "Sure Can Fly" and man could she run. We rode mountains checking cattle, roping and doctoring. We rode in parades, gave babies their 1st rides. She was that 1 in a million mare you always dreamed of having. She'd babysit novices & kids, she'd perform like a star for educated riders, BUT if you put a wannabe that "knew" how to ride. She would mess with them all day, just to show em who was boss!🤣 I grieve for her still. When an animal carries a piece of your soul, they take it with them when they pass on, however instead of a hole in your heart, they give you a peace of their soul for you to cherish always. This chapter hit that point with Jubal & Lucas. They haven't even realized that they are carrying part of each other's soul, but I think Jubal is figuring it out.... Well done my friend & may you find peace with the knowledge you carry part of Sky in your soul.

Being my optimistic self, I have waited to post a review so far. BUT.....Gary, as usual, you have not disappointed! Your ability to create a mental picture by using iteration is astounding! I am once again hooked and salivating for more. The interplay between Jubal and Lucas is intriguing and beautiful. The coy banter of these two is creating a dance of vibrance, confusion, and wanting between these characters. The attraction is palpable, yet unsung. Thank you for giving yet another literary masterpiece that intrigues the mind and calls to the soul.. Well done sir!

I completely understand the need to refine and polish each chapter, hey....A guy can hope!! I would rather wait for your artistic mastery of words, than have mediocrity. I truly enjoy your writing skill and technique! I would rather be salivating for the next chapter,vs... reading rushed substandard literature. Don't change a thing on my account!

I am LOVING this spinoff of Larkspur!!! I would kill for biweekly updates, because weekly is TORTURE!!! That asside, Lucas & Jubal are wonderful characters. What I love about your stories is that no set of characters are alike. Each book has it's own unique characters with individual personalities. It's refreshing to have an author who can not only pique my interest and photographic mind, but doesn't carbon copy characters the same in every story. I actually read slower (normally an extremely fast reader), so that I can let my imagination create scenery and depict situations to their fullest. Your writing style is supour! Gary. Hats off to you!

At @Headstall recommendation I started reading Sidewinder, then found the followup with Lark Spur (which IS deadly poisonous to cattle by the way) , and got surprised I found Bearpaw, which I read the chapters so far and caught up. I was completely thrown and excited this story has a connection, albeit loosely, to that series. I loved the Story and was left wanting to hear more. The trip, finding land, maybe meeting our Sidewinder guys. That would be awesome & @Headstall you better not stop here! This is a potential for at least a couple books, and your writing style is phenomenal!!! Folks, this is another MUST Read from @Headstall. Hats off to you!

Followup book to Sidewinder. As well written and executed as the 1st book, with a HUGE twist I wasn't expecting 1st. This is another "can't put it down" read from this fine author. It's so good, I'm going to scroll through and see if there's a 3rd in the series. I have now read 3 books in a row from this author and I really enjoy his style and ability to paint a picture with words that you can feel in your hert!

This is an exceptional tale of 2 young men going through self reflection and internal growth, while battling their feelings toward what the Lord thinks, and what their heart needs. I'm not normally a western fan, but at the suggestion of the author, me being a gay rancher and all, I can say I was never disappointed. The story was riveting. It told of hardships and fears most of the "men like us" feel even in today's society when you're tied to agriculture of some form. This is an exceptionally well written book, that takes your heart on twists and turns to the point you can't set it down. Even if you aren't a western fan, this is a MUST READ book!!! You will not be disappointed!

Absolutely loved this book! The author's writing style paints a true picture of events and brings you on a journey of ups and down that leaves you wanting more!! You will not be disappointed in this book. It is captivating and hard to put down (you are warned). Hopefully more books are added to continue this incredibly well written tail! This is not a traditional shifter story, it is a creative interpretation of mates, life and living. You "feel" these peoples lives as they take place. Free will is given to the characters, so it's not the simple love at 1st sight, all rainbows & unicorns, type of story. Hands down the best shifter story I have read. More Please!!

I think you have very creative and intriguing content. I just felt you did yourself a disservice on this one. Plus sick and in a hurry never bides well. I do love this entire Astara series & the necko's are quite inventive. I hope you know I wasn't trying to bash, but I appreciate your skill enough I couldn't let it sit.

It was a unique story. I do feel there was too much unexplained at the end. I feel like I'm lacking closure. It feels like when your reading an unfinished, timed essay, and the professor says "pencils down". I would have liked to understand Adam more. I think if there had been more depth than, "I was your mate & wanted to save you" it could have been more understandable. I can't say relatable since I'm a father and do not understand pedophilia, Norton I understand the inclusion of "minor attracted" people in the alphabet mafia (sorry but the LGBT community just keeps adding letters to the point it's ludicrous). My sister is Trans, I am Gay, we're both parents and neither of us will ever condone touching a minor. You can do anything you want with another able minded, consenting, adult. Animals and minors don't have the cognitive ability for informed consent. That being said, this is an alternate world where there's a carnal pull to another person, if the mate bond/attraction had been better portrayed, where it was shown that Adam was trying to save his mate and had no other option, instead of him saying he had a sickness, it would have been more relatableish. However it came across as "I liked to sleep with little boys, and just happened to come across as my mate. So I mated, turned, and abandoned him." I love your eloquent writing and creativity, but this was probably not a storyline to be rushed.

Great book. I just found this site a couple weeks ago. When will the followup be released? I love your take on werewolf lore. Unique and refreshing.
