Not going to try to speak for everybody, but it's not unusual to "hate" the characters in a story but still like the story. How many people cheer on Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, or Freddy Kruger? If one writes characters that are so far from what people expect, they're going to want to tear them apart.
I've written a number of disdainful characters. I love seeing that my villains are hated. Maybe Dylan isn't a villain, per se, but the disparity in the two personalities "seems" to make Dylan the bad guy.
