For those interested, this is the coffee pot in question. More here.

Friday, Toby came to Ares after school, though he was later than usual because his new year at school meant a different timetable and he had more to do late afternoon. Brian thought back to his own school days and suspected that the boy would soon start to want to spend the time after in Huntsford with his mates rather than lurk at his Dad’s work. Brian had already discussed the idea of getting a Toby a better bike, as he was doing a lot more on it now that he lived full time in Parborough

Wednesday I decided that I would continue my spreading bread on the waters, local fashion. I found a chain copy shop in town, where I had some business cards printed; only instant things, naff-looking but functional. Then I went in search of bookshops. There was only one; clearly the good people of Coningham either did not read or bought their books off the internet. There was nothing particularly local about the bookshop; this was a chain. There was at least a talks programme, but the spea

I can't guarantee I have not got Toby's age wrong at some point!

“How was your weekend, really?” Justin grinned at Toby. The two were idling in Huntsford marketplace, eating ice cream. This was a relatively new thing. Both had after-school activities and were due to be picked up by Justin’s Mum and they would eat at Justin’s house. But another year older, they had that bit more freedom and neither family had problems with the boys having a bit of time together. It was way cooler than Toby having to hang around his Dad’s work; without Noah there, Toby usu

Don't worry, that's coming!

Let;s face it, it wouldn't be as much fun if they were bundled up for a typical wet and windy British Summer!
-
I think that we have to assume that my story takes place during an unusually mild Summer (though the temperature does come into things later!)
-
Frankly the weather does make their naked activities rather hardy. Essex is not the south!

Monday I was a bit subdued when I met Matt, though it was banana and peanut butter sandwiches, which were surprisingly yummy. “You OK? You seem a bit glum. Sorry if I’m sticking my nose in.” “No. It’s just stupid family stuff. It’s 20 years since Vince and I lived in the same house, and I’ve never been good as a roommate.” “You going to stick with it?” “I will do my damnedest. But part of me thinks Dad’s will was his final joke; set Vince and I against each other.” “That

A Weekend: Luxury Hotel
Robert Hugill commented on Robert Hugill's story chapter in A Weekend: Luxury Hotel
Didn't think of that, next time! -
The flat was so quiet without Toby. Even though the boy didn’t usually make that much noise, his activities now formed the backdrop to their home life. Brian was constantly expecting him to appear and ask what time tea was. Sunday morning, they had woken late at the hotel but made it down to the restaurant in time for a slap-up brunch that involved the luxury of scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Gordon had pointed out that they could easily have had this at home, Lidl’s smoked salmon was v

Thanks. Things go quite slowly in this story, some 150,000 words spread across 60 chapters. But things DO happen, I assure you. Gray, Vince and Freddie all develop interesting attachments and things change! -
I had neglected to get a phone number for Matt, so on Friday I arrived at the agreed pub rather early and perched at one of the outside tables. It was a relatively unassuming 19th-century building that seemed to have colonised part of Castle Field, the green space that stretched from the Castle to the river, so the pub had bags of outdoor space. Once at the pub, I began feeling rather uncertain. I was never uncertain, but now I hadn’t a clear idea of what to do. Should I buy a drink or wait

The pool in the stables’ spa required costumes, of course, though Gordon and Brian’s remarkably abbreviated ones, bought back when they had their first holiday together in the Emirate, proved a hit both with Russ and with some of other swimmers. Late Saturday morning, after a lazy breakfast in bed, long, long shower and a short walk, the pool was not particularly busy, just a sprinkling of middle-aged couples and a group of younger men who seemed more set on larking about than actually swimming.

A new friend & more brotherly love
Robert Hugill commented on Robert Hugill's story chapter in A new friend & more brotherly love
Thanks, lots more twists and turns to come over the Summer! -
After my first meeting Matt on the Friday, the following Monday morning I set my alarm and managed to get myself up to the Nature Reserve in time for eight am. I had at least showered and had a quick coffee, but that was it. Matt was just arriving on his elderly moped. I nodded to the bike. “That must almost be a classic.” “Thanks. It was my dad’s. It still goes OK. The guy in the garage says if I do it up, it’d be worth something.” I smiled. “But that would be a significant inves

Thanks, yes Kate B is V apt, and I love the living in TREES! -
The Friday of their weekend away, Brian and Gordon both took the afternoon off, with Toby going to work with them in the morning. The boy was nervous and excited, and taking him to Ares seemed the best solution, there was plenty to keep him occupied there, and Philippa very kindly took him under her wing, getting him to help her. Before Deirdre arrived at Ares to collect him, Brian gave Toby a quick pep talk. “Now, sport.” “Dad, it’s only a weekend with Mum.” “So, I’m not going to
