  1. Wait and see!
  2. Are you familiar with Ghoti, a creative respelling of the word fish, gh, pronounced 'f' as in enough or tough; o, pronounced 'i' as in women; ti, pronounced 'sh' as in nation or motion
  3. Thanks. And I'm supposed to know that!
  4. No iidea where that came from, it's in my mental vocabulary but not sure whether I've ever spoken the word out aloud!

A couple of images to give you an idea of Evie and Drew's place!
  6. The activities in this chapter, surprising though they might have been, do have roles to play in the subsequent family dramas! Lots more to come.
  7. “Uncle Gray, I…” My nephew Freddie came to an abrupt halt in the doorway to my sitting room. The annexe where I was living was a single storey addition at right-angles to the main house. A separate flat, compact but perfect for me, even though the décor and furniture had barely changed since Dad had had the place refurbished after grandfather died. It was more reminiscent of an hotel than a family home. Whilst the annexe had its own front door, which was good for independent living, th

I have to admit that I have not read any of Trollope 's Chronicles though the name must have been there at the back of my mind!

I'll see what I can do! I don't use AI, so it's what I can find on the internet.

    A Phone Call

Nosey besom is definintely a phrase from my childhood. Strictly a besom is a form of traditional broom, no idea how it got associated with an unpleasant woman.
  11. The boys are back! We return to Parborough to catch up with Brian & Gordon after an eventful year, what with new jobs, new relationships and new friends. Brian, his soon-to-be husband, Gordon and son, Toby are discovering life as a family, along with working out just what their relationship is with the rich and sexy Russ Kahn. But life isn't all roses and Toby's relationship with his friend Noah is called into question whilst his Mother's boyfriend remains a worrying threat.
  12. >It’s me. “Hi, Deirdre”, she never announced herself, you had to work out who it was. Though Brian was well used to the sound of her voice on the phone, and the attendant sinking feeling that it’s sound now brought. >He’s been sending me emails, that your idea? Brian presumed that ‘he’ referred to their son, Toby, “I suggested Toby send you some pictures from our holiday, but I didn’t check up on exactly what he sent.” >Well, more than a few, for a start. “If yo
  13. Certainly the right size and shape!!! And ugliness.
  14. I couldn't find anything more asymmetrical, I'm afraid. No turrets though, a bit more post-war neoGeorgian, very 1950s.

  16. Not exactly right but the correct style, I think.
  17. I preferred Dad to die at a reasonably old age, and figured that he was the sort to delay children until he was more established in business. This also had the advantage that Gray was brought up by rather older parents.
  18. I needed Gray unfit for dramatic purposes! He will get fitter, and don't worry, lots more Matt.
  19. A bit younger than that. Vince is around 38 with Gray 28 and Freddie, Vince's son 15. Vince is also a bit of a stick in the mud solicitor, but that will change
  20. Thanks, and hopefully you'll enjoy meeting Freddie in the next episode!
  21. In the morning light, the lawn was magical as it sloped down towards the reservoir as if the garden ran right to the distant water’s edge and you got a glimpse of the water framed by the trees and mature (read overgrown) shrubs. Grandfather had built the house for this very view. I doubt that he would get planning permission now, and even in the 1950s palms had had to be greased. The Philpotts owned a considerable amount of land around the house, not just the garden but the fields beyond and to
  22. Never say never, as they say!
  23. “You’ll be pleased to know that Jacqueline Wilson’s information all panned out.” “They found the money?” DI Donaldson gave a grim smile, “A tidy nest egg by all accounts. The SFO is pleased. Her information pointed them in just the right direction. Paper trail and all.” “So, it’s all wrapped up?” “As far as our end is concerned. There’s enough to keep the SFO guys busy, and the prospect of him being detained at Her Majesty’s pleasure for a long time.” “Strange though.”
  24. I think that I am only really comfortable writing 'characterful' children (think Ralph's twins for instance)!
  25. It's funny, until you pointed it out, I never thought about Adam being silent!
