  1. “So, what happened?” Ludo and Arthur were sitting in the head’s office at the school. It was quiet, the pupils had all departed. The office was blandly modern; apart from the photographs of school sports day and other such images on the walls, it could have been anywhere. The head, a brisk middle-aged woman who had always struck Ludo as looking more like a manager than a teacher, looked uncomfortable and perhaps a trifle resentful. “Two of the senior boys, known troublemakers, have bee
  2. The initial version of Therese was rather too easy going, and I have tried to reflect more of a struggle between her conflicting attitudes.
  3. We're definitely hoping for a Christmas no. 1. Ralph has plenty more good things to come.
  4. Monday, despite all that was going on, Ralph had to find time to have a lunch meeting with Morrie. The man wanted to talk plans for the Iverson’s launch. Ralph was pretty sure it didn’t actually need his input. Morrie just wanted a sympathetic ear to bounce ideas off and Ralph needed Morrie sweet; the contract was significant business and there might well be a lot more if things took off. As far as Ralph was concerned, you simply switched the new website on and sent out a few press releases
  5. Don't worry. It will be. Eventually....
  6. How to explain to a ten-year-old what remand for trial meant when you had no idea yourself. Ludo shared these thoughts with Arthur when he returned from delivering the boys to school. “That’s what life is going to be like, isn’t it?” Ludo grinned. But they didn’t talk for long. Both were trying to get back to some sort of normal work routine. Ludo was struggling a bit with his new role at his firm but was determined to make it work. Late morning, Arthur appeared in his study. “Dif
  7. Now that's a thought, perhaps I should give him his own story!!!
  8. Thanks, Carine and Beth will be back.
  9. And the twins were indeed delighted. Wearing their best dungarees with heavy shirts and cardigans, plus their warm jackets and new bandanas, they looked charming and were excited to find that Carine was in dungarees too. The weather was dry, but crisp and cold, they’d been in luck. Beth and Carine had brought a picnic, insisting that it had been no bother and when the twins learned that it was Carine’s recipe for the spicy lentils and a couple of other dishes their Father had started making
  10. So, they were famous. Arthur suggested they might cut out the page and frame it, but Ludo could see the gleam of mischief in his eyes. Ludo had been out early to buy multiple copies; he’d gone and braved the huddle of press men and women. Things had died down somewhat, yesterday, but they had driven to and from The Garden with Ludo going as fast as he dared when entering and leaving the drive. The boys had been horrified and fascinated, a bit like a horror movie. There had been anxieties at bedt
  11. @Summerabbacat the T word is Tomboy! I have heard of the Bobbsey Twins but never actually come across one of the books.
  12. The next couple of weeks were just mad. Nolan and Verne were frantically setting up their new venture at the gym, adjusting their existing classes and sessions whilst trying to create new opportunities. They were planning a launch event the following Friday, to introduce themselves to the existing gym membership and Beth was helping with publicity. So, Ralph and Nolan hardly saw each other; Nolan was busy but happy. Some nights they slept apart, both found that they needed space. The house
  13. Ludo, Arthur and Gordy definitely never happens. Gordy just isn't interested. But Ludo, Arthur and Graham Marcus? Wait and see.
  14. Ludo wasn’t sleeping well. Anxieties over the police and being arrested had died down, but they were still there, bubbling back into his consciousness at the most unexpected moments including in the early hours of the morning, when thoughts, ideas would race around his head. Until Jackie was properly charged and tried, it wouldn’t go away, would it? The idea that something else would happen, that more so-called evidence would appear, was a constant worry. From the word go, events had seemed
  15. @Bft Hove into view is a rather old-fashioned, poetic term, originally nautical: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/heave into view
  16. Ralph had really not expected anything to happen, and certainly not quickly. After all, there was no guarantee that Gordon would want to meet up at all. But Russ Kahn seemed to be a man of action, and he’d responded to Ralph’s message at 1am (!) saying that he had forwarded it on to Gordon. By breakfast, Ralph had had a message from Gordon and now here he was walking over to meet the man for lunch. And there was no doubting who he was meeting. They had instantly recognised each other, then simpl

    Press Friday

There are 32 chapters in all, so not quite half way. More twists to come, Andreas Huber's wife to meet and all sorts of 'fun'
  19. Afterwards, they thought of it as press Friday. The day the reporters came in earnest. The doorbell went at 8am. Ludo’s first thought was that Alastair’s nephew was early. Leaving Arthur to supervise the final preparations for school (they had decided that they could not keep the boys off indefinitely), Ludo opened the front door, unthinkingly. There was an eager-looking young woman, Ludo’s first impression was of sleekness and bright red lips. “Mr Wilson, Janine Stone from the Mail, I
  20. I think the phrase is properly something like as neat as a bandbox or something, but I can't remember the original!
  21. To finalise things, Russ Kahn had insisted that they all come to his office. Ralph had expected that Nolan and Verne would just sign paperwork and that was that, but not a bit, Russ Kahn insisted on meeting them again and having a drink to celebrate their new partnership. So, Wednesday evening, Ralph, Nolan and Verne foregathered in the ritzy foyer of RK Enterprises’ headquarters building. Well, ritzy by comparison to what they could afford, and it was impressively kitted out with some seri
  22. Thanks, have not the slightest idea where I picked it up from!
