On the walk from the Minster to the pub, the party divided into two. Joe walked ahead with Owain whilst Colin found himself next to Mhairi. "I wanted to speak to you" Colin's heard rather sank, expecting a big sister talk about Owain. "I was wondering if you might come and advise me on work at the house". Not what Colin had been expecting, “Renovations?” "Owain probably told you, we're due a bit of money once Dad's estate is settled and I wanted to use some to sort the house out.”

I am not quite sure whether I can get my head around that one. yet!!
  3. Thanks to all, glad the story continues to engage!
  4. Child support might be right.
  5. Don't worry, this isn't the last of him!
  6. In terms of seeing Kostas and Bruno doing stuff, Friday was a dead loss. The two men were out on a job; Noah and Toby found themselves in the meeting room, working there. But Toby got to quiz Noah about the Summer holidays, and where he could suggest that they might go. It turned out that Noah and his family spent a lot of time in Scotland as his Dad liked the fishing. This, Noah pronounced, was really boring but at least Noah managed to see some cool things in the streams, where the water was b
  7. Many thanks, glad the story is working for you. I never quite know how arcane the language is. Having spent my youth in the East Midlands, my Uni years in Manchester and then moved to Scotland for five years, I have picked up rather a range of local idioms.
  8. Sunday morning, I woke and realised that Colin was lying still beside me. I turned, and saw he was awake. "Good morning. You could have got up". "Good morning. I didn't want to disturb you, and I rather liked being able to lie here and think and listen to you". "Snoring!" He smiled, "Not really, more like an engine gently whirring", he put his hand on my chest and stroked it, "I was going to wake you up properly, but we'd better leave that till later. If we are going to get t
  9. We'll be meeting Justin (and his parents) properly in a later chapter. Ralph will also make a fleeting second appearance, but I am currently toying with giving him his own story, watch this space!
  10. Justin is one of Toby's friends, his name pops up occasionally.
  11. Oh, I'm sure we could think of more!
  12. Thanks!
  13. At their usual Sunday evening meal, Denise had something to tell them, Brian was pretty sure of that by the way his Mother seemed to be almost vibrating, with suppressed excitement or perhaps tension. Whatever it was, she thought it was good. As soon as Toby had excused himself from the table, Denise stopped tidying away the remains of dinner and sat back down at the kitchen table with Gordon and Brian. "Deirdre has handed in her notice at the Spa." Brian didn't both asking how his Mot
  14. I was rather nervous of just leaving Colin to it but didn't see as how I could muscle in and demand I help. Still, he messaged me on Sunday evening to let me know he was feeling OK, had decided I was right, and he would talk to the guys tomorrow. And that there had been no word from either his Mum or brother. The shits. Monday, all hell let loose at the new house. There was a frantic two days as Colin and the team got everything ready for the new windows arriving on Wednesday. Then they wou
  15. @SummerabbacatI just love the idea of Deirdre and Jasper going off to visit Colin's Mother and brother!
  16. "Drew has a big new client, looks like he's going to get rid of some of those big canvases that clutter up the studio". Drew smiled but refused to be drawn. Brian and Gordon had arrived at Drew and Evie's for lunch, with Toby and Noah in tow. They were early, miraculously, because getting two boys out of the house was way harder than one. As soon as they arrived, the boys had disappeared off to the orchard, bugs and bees were waiting. "How come?" Evie shrugged, "Local businessman.

Colin had taken a bit of time over breakfast, enjoying the moment with Owain. As he had rightly pointed out, if Colin was an hour or two late, what did another 30 minutes matter. Colin had texted his Mum and Miles; his phone pinged whilst he was driving, but he didn't bother responding, no doubt it would be Miles sounding off again. Colin was a bit annoyed with himself, he had meant to set the alarm, not for the usual time but a bit later, so that the morning wasn't too much of a rush. Now he wa

    Friday Fun

Thanks indeed, still more fun and frolic to come.
  21. Noah and Toby arrived at Ares around the same time, both had left school promptly, eager to see what was going on. Philippa was at her desk and greeted the boys warmly, sorted out them stowing their bags and coats and then shooed them down to see Kostas. He had some work for Noah and Toby simply tagged along. Again, it was rather boring, but they got a good view of the workshop. At first it seemed as if nothing was going to happen. Bruno was buttoned up as usual, with a t-shirt underneath,
  22. Thanks indeed!
  23. Colin lived in a small modern development which looked as if the architect had been playing one of those children's games with bricks. The various units were stacked up in different ways and alignments, all set off by nice green lawns but little in the way of proper garden. Judging by the cars parked, it was quite a varied place, from a slick Audi to little runabouts to Colin’s van with its Reliable Renovations logo plastered on the side. His door was in a corner, which made the entrance a bit d
