  1. By Thursday, they were going to see Russ Kahn. Quick as that. Kahn's HQ had the top two floors of a new building that was the centrepiece of a business park that was being created, out of town but handy for a variety of transport links including the motorway and railway. Inside it looked nothing special, just another modern office. In the lift, Gordon insisted on Brian unfastening a couple more buttons of his shirt, to show off his chest. Brian's comment was, 'you sure?', but Gordon just said tr

Thanks for all the comments and don't worry Cane23 they get it together very soon, and pvtguy there will be come-back to Mum, eventually.

Colin had decided he'd had enough. Miles had been going on at him, again, for not coming over for the twins' birthday and saying how Colin needed to make sure he visited them to see the girls. Colin had duly sent a birthday present, via his Mum, but there'd been no thank you. But if he'd missed sending it, Miles would have been quick to point out the slight. Last Sunday, he'd taken some paperwork to his Mum's and rather than being sympathetic she'd gone on and on about all the things that needed

    Science Fair

You could probably argue that all my tales take place in the same universe, and yes church and music play big roles at times.

    thanks!
  6. The science fair was a local thing. A yearly occurrence, taking place during half-term, it happened in the Town Hall in Huntsford, but it was designed to show off the best of the science projects from schools across the region, so it was in fact, a 'big thing'. Toby's project was one of three chosen to represent his school. The Town Hall was a grand 18th-century building on the Market Square, more like a grand town house. It wasn’t used as a Town Hall anymore; the council offices were out o

Sorry for any confusion, I probably tried to move things on too fast.

    Definitely nonprofessional!
  10. Getting the work on my new house started was taking rather longer than I had anticipated, but the new builder, Colin from Reliable Renovations, impressed in a number of ways. For a start he was a big bloke, rather sexy and definitely my type. If I'd met him at Ten Tons of Fun, then I would have hooked onto him. As it was, he was a potential builder for the house. He had come round one evening, looked at all that needed doing, hadn't sucked his teeth, had listened to what I thought and what I wan
  11. The Monday meeting at Ares were always a bit random. Philippa had a list of projects, ones planned and ones in progress, to talk about and other personnel matters that might be needed to be brought up, and Damian thought he kept order. But in reality, things skittered all over, partly because everything was interconnected so that they might be talking about expanding the contract for one firm, but the IT implications would mean that Connor would end up talking about something else entirely. As i

Ten Tons Of Fun is based on a London club for big guys that I sometimes visited in the 1990s, but the Weather Girls' might have played a role in the naming. Colin's mother is just manipulative and don't worry, he's going to develop. As for his exact size, I leave that to you, though Owain describes him a bit more in a subsequent chapter.

    >Where were you on Sunday, Colin. Mum was upset that you didn't go to see her. She was relying on you to take her to the church fete. "Couldn't you have done that Miles? >You know that Sundays are difficult, Annalisa likes me to spend time with the twins and last Sunday we had a party to take them to. "I'd told you and I'd told Mum that I had to work on Sunday." >Come on, kiddo, surely you deserve a day off. To fucking drive 90 minutes each way in order to take
  16. Never sure about local idiom but I figured ironing them out was boring!
  17. Thanks for the comments and there's plenty in the pipeline.
  18. Brian was privately having kittens. Previously, he'd hardly had to deal with Toby's friends and their parents, that had been mainly Deirdre. But now, here he was, here they were; Gordon was getting the boys settled in the car. Gordon had laughed at him last night and commented that they were only kids. It would only be like having two Tobies. And it was. Noah was remarkably polite, but once back in the flat the two demolished juice and cake like they were starving. He and Gordon had bought

  21. Mhairi and I ended up having a second bottle of wine, and it was a very merry pair that finally left Leo's. Oh, don't get me wrong, my relationship with Mhairi would always be prickly, our shared history saw to that. But we could now say things to each other and talk things out. We'd never been in a position to do that before. As the evening had worn on, we had even managed to have some discussion about gay men, marriage and that, and things between us might be OK. I wondered whether this w
  22. My stories do often feature gay men who are struggling with their sexuality or with their family, or both! If the Monty Python's Life of Brian reference is there, it was entirely unconscious!*

  24. When Toby arrived at his Dad's office, he said hello Philippa and put his bag down on his Dad's desk (though his Dad wasn't around), took his blazer off and went to get a glass of water from the kitchen area. Kostas was there, and Toby remained as fascinated as ever by the way Kostas seemed to have so much on show, though he had promised his Dad he wouldn't stare. But when Kostas squatted down to get the milk from the fridge, Toby was sure he could see Kostas' pubes. The guy was far too hairy an
