The science fair was a local thing. A yearly occurrence, taking place during half-term, it happened in the Town Hall in Huntsford, but it was designed to show off the best of the science projects from schools across the region, so it was in fact, a 'big thing'. Getting the work on my new house started was taking rather longer than I had anticipated, but the new builder, Colin from Reliable Renovations, impressed in a number of ways. Ten Tons Of Fun is based on a London club for big guys that I sometimes visited in the 1990s, but the Weather Girls' might have played a role in the naming. Colin's mother is just manipulative and don't worry, he's going to develop. As for his exact size, I leave that to you, though Owain describes him a bit more in a subsequent chapter.

The church was the same, only shabbier and smaller. Looming so large in my childhood and youth, in my imagination the idea of it remained overwhelming. Owain returns to live in his home town, 20 years after leaving when he was disowned his parents for being gay. He needs to rebuild his life following illness and come to terms with his messy family history. There is much to learn and discover, along the way he meets Colin, a builder who has his own family issues. The two explore how to make a life the way that they want, irrespective of the weight of their family experiences. The story takes place in Cheshire, UK. The main setting, Netherwich, is my invention based on elements of Crewe and Nantwich. The language uses some regional idiom.
