Bus journey – 21 December
Robert Hugill commented on Robert Hugill's story chapter in Bus journey – 21 December
That's another story, isn't it! The lady and her son do reappear, but not quite in the way you think.... -
It was meant to be a break, a few peaceful weeks in Ireland and a chance to reconnect with his brother. But things don’t go according to plan. Businessman Russ can cope, just about, with his football-mad nephews, but add in a punishing encounter with a group of yobs, and the results are not quite what anyone expected. Though his brother has difficulty accepting Russ’ rather different personal life, ultimately the two bond over shared memories, Josephine Baker and bad poetry.
-
The countryside sped by and looked, well, green, at least as far as Russ could tell through the sheets of rain battering the bus windows. The bus was a real novelty, and Russ found the experience not unpleasant. With a successful business that took him from his base in Parborough across the UK and beyond, Russ was used to being driven, to having the luxury of his own company and the space to work. He certainly wasn’t alone now. He had been surprised at quite how many got the bus from the air

Correct! A subsequent chapter makes it clear it's Iverson's! -
“I told Jacob that he can stay here at least for as long as his traineeship.” I nodded to Vince. “Fair enough. Or longer, even.” “You OK with that?” “He’s hardly a noisome lodger, is he?” Vince chuckled. “I thought we could let him have another room.” “Well, being as we’re getting shut of this lot.” We were standing in the drive, watching the men manhandling the furniture from the attic out to their van. Ultimately, the valuers had made such a song and dance abo

Rory & Slav’s end of term
Robert Hugill commented on Robert Hugill's story chapter in Rory & Slav’s end of term
A bigger house is coming! But we need to get through two weeks of holiday first. -

Not quite sure about the break. THe various fragments of plot are failing to come together in the right way! -
Rory was walking home with Matthew and Irma. Home being Gavin and Jason’s house, and somehow it was quickly becoming Rory’s home. He felt welcome there and comfortable. Whatever was happening, no matter how busy Gavin and Jason were, they always made time for the boys. Even when it was obvious they were otherwise engaged, that they were having sex - bedroom door closed, muffled sounds and giggles. It had been a shock; the first time he’d seen Jason come out of the bedroom proudly displaying an i

Recording adventures
Robert Hugill commented on Robert Hugill's story chapter in Recording adventures
Thanks, great news isn't it. And thanks to all those busy readers -
It turned out that I knew nothing about how modern radio functioned. What a surprise? I had fondly imagined that if Essex Radio or whoever were interested in my idea for radio talks, then I would simply go into their studio to record the programmes. Simples. Except hardly anyone made programmes like that anymore. There were people who went into the studio and played music, granted - DJs and personalities - but continuity announcements, current affairs, news and that apart, radi

Weekend away: endings

Weekend away: beginnings
Robert Hugill commented on Robert Hugill's story chapter in Weekend away: beginnings
It was a convention I used to suggest Slav's uncertainty with the language rather than transcribing his efforts in tedious detail. -
Irma came over late morning and the four of them walked to the pub in town to meet Rory’s grandparents. The talk was lively, much of it of music - the concert next weekend, Irma’s choir at church. But then Irma had a piece of big news that she had been hugging to herself. Her parents had booked themselves a summer holiday, alone. There would be no pressure on Irma for a family holiday and the gesture meant that she was completely free to come with them, there would be no last-minute arm-twistin

True, Though people do repeate themselves! -
“What are you doing tomorrow afternoon?” Matt frowned, thoughtful. “I’ve got college work, and I need to plan my course project. I’m doing that at the Reserve.” “That’s great.” “Yeah.” He looked a bit sheepish. “But there’s lots to learn, reckon it’ll keep me busy.” “Good experience. It’s why you’re studying.” “You don’t mind?” “That you’re busy studying. Hell no. I’d mind more if you were cutting corners.” “Thanks.” Though we were in The Castle Arms,

Gavin and Jason were having a glorious time. The hotel was an old house with a modern wing that held most of the rooms. Their budget didn’t run to one of the grander rooms in the old building, but what they had was fine. Spacious with a huge bed, bathroom with a walk-in shower and lots of bath and shower products, and a lovely view of the gardens. They had arrived in plenty of time, which meant they could luxuriate in the shower, shave and stuff as well as have sex. In fact, the whole event

Tempus fugit - a home, a family & a boyfriend
Robert Hugill posted new chapter in Not just another Summer
Finishing off our Saturday with Arnold and Dawn with fish and chips and then something of a stroll started to give me ideas about how Matt and I might end the day. “You going home? Or do you fancy snuggling with me?” Matt looked concerned. “I’m up early and off to the Reserve, and I don’t have the moped.” “Simples.” I grinned. “Arnold can drop us at yours, and we moped to mine. You can pick up a change of knickers too.” He went a bit pink but smiled and nodded. “Ta.”- 9 comments

Thanks!

Not at all. I am always fascinated at how people spot links between the stories and characters that I never thought about.
-
All my stories turning into one giant story!
-
Truthfully, I am not sure whether there are. I think there might be at least one, but I needed it for the story!

Music plays a big part in my 'other' life so it bleeds into stories, and I have memories of playing Ma Vlast with the youth orchestra when I was at school
-
Three-line whip derives from usage in the English parliament, whilst copper-bottomed refers, I think, to the fact that wooden ships used to have copper linings on them. I got quite fond of Slav and he is one of the main reasons I dusted the story off and brought it out here.
