  1. Gavin was worried. There was always something that needed attention, school, rehearsals, or a matter of the boys’ behaviour. They now had two teenage boys to be concerned about, along with Slav. But there were other things in life. They’d talk about the issues later, for the moment Jason leaned forward and stopped Gavin’s mouth with a kiss, whilst at the same time slipping a hand under his crotch. Gavin’s eyes widened in surprise, then crinkled in amusement, but he didn’t pull away. They ha
  2. Yes, walking is a great interest for us though usually we prefer somewhere a little more metropolitan than Gray. Certainly within easy distance of a decent tea room or pub!
  3. “Where the hell are we?” I peered at the landscape through the car windows as Arnold parked the car. Not that it needed much parking: we’d come to a dead end in a lane with little to see but grass, sea and sky. From the back seat, Dawn sounded amused. “Don’t you recognise it, Gray?” “We’re near the sea. That’s the second wader I’ve seen.” Matt sounded happy. As the crow flies, we hadn’t come that far from Coningham. But travel on the local roads wasn’t fast. Still, Arnold’s
  4. Jason's magazine has rather metamorphosed in my mind as the story developed, in order to fit in things that I needed. It is probably mainly music with a bit of lifestyle!
  5. Slav was in the kitchen, carefully dissecting a rather fearful-looking slab of meat with Gavin’s sharpest knife. Slav had insisted that this evening, he would cook for everyone. He had allowed Gavin to order most of the food but had insisted on getting the meat himself. It was OK, he had assured them, his grandmother had shown him what to choose and how to prepare it. Given the man’s size, his indifferent English and his clear shyness when faced with their different English ways, it was eas
  6. Precisely! Maybe a future story might pick up on them a few years hence!
  7. I was always clear about Gray and Vince's arc of friendship developing. In fact, the Gray/Matt interaction was slower to become clear. When reading the early chapters to my husband (I read them to him on car journies) he was unsure whether Gray and Matt would actually get it together!
  8. There are plenty of threads in the story, I admit, and that is one of the reasons why it grew so long. But the overarching thread is the development of the relationship between the two brothers and I found that I could finishing things in a satisfactory (to me!) way when this relationship matured.
  9. Yes, it is the longest. We still have 10 chapters to go. And glad people have been following me on the journey.
  10. I am sorry to disappoint you, but Venetia will not be back, she has definitely flounced off into the sunset!
  11. Simon had mentioned to me, ages back, that the Castle had a couple of rooms which were used for contemporary art exhibitions. Sometimes a single local artist or group, and sometimes a mixed selling show. It was the latter for the months running up to Christmas. Come January, the rooms would be closed for redecoration. Then for their reopening, they were having paintings by the woman whose print was being used for my poem. She was very graciously letting the Castle have a substantial fee
  12. I must thank @MikeLeigh who has bravely taken on the task of editing this story, and I am gradually applying his edits in retrospect
  13. Gavin’s site-meeting with clients had finished early, so he instead of driving straight home he swung by the school in the car. The other day, Matthew had suggested that the two of them eat on their own, on the way back from rehearsals, which was actually rather nice. When Matthew mentioned doing it again, Gavin had commented, and the boy had got a bit embarrassed. It seemed it was Irma’s idea; to counter Matthew worrying he and his father didn’t get time together much. Gavin felt a bit guilty t
  14. Aimée was as good as her word, and we had costings for the website by the weekend. Vince looked through them and said he would sub me: think of it as sponsorship. I had thought she would then hit me with lots of designs, but not a bit. There was still breathless enthusiasm for my poetry. But alongside this were questions about what the website was to actually do. (Something she called ‘user journeys’.) I ended up cornering Freddie. He and I—then he, Vince and I—had endless discussion
  15. Thanks!
  16. Gavin was shopping in town. Nothing earth-shattering, just bits and pieces, and of course when Matthew and Jason found out he was going, the list had grown somewhat. It was also a good excuse to have a nose around town without too much hassle. Jason was working, whilst Matthew and Rory were off rehearsing. There was a new coffee-shop in the Market Place, or rather a rebranding of an existing one. As good as anywhere else, he supposed. So Gavin decided to treat himself. Coffee and cookie ordered;

  19. Bumph is a word I have always been fond of. Doing some digging (as a result of your comment) it seems that it can also mean toilet paper and derives from the 19th century term bumfodder!
  20. Of course, Friday morning I woke up feeling like shit, as if the proverbial train had run over me. However, on reflection I was pleased at the way the talk had gone. Still, it was going to be a quiet day. I had emails from both Malcolm and Peter (on his official email address) thanking me and relaying some of the nice comments they had received from audience members. Part of me wondered whether they were suppressing the shit comments, but I realised that Peter would at least be frank, even i
  21. Rory had bunked off rehearsals and was looking forward to some time alone. Gavin and Jason were out at meetings and Matthew would be at school for another couple of hours yet, so Rory had the time to himself. He enjoyed living with the Higgins family but was missing those moments when he could be alone. Rory’s life had been madly social, what with music, school, and The Gang, but usually when he was home it was just him, with only Mirenna looking in with food. And he liked that. So, he was sitti
  22. You are probably right!
  23. Many years ago I used to know someone whose pet name for his boyfriend was piglet!
  24. Bas is thinking of coming to Southwold, but Gray thinks it is too far. Watch this space....
  25. “Once, for a joke at university, I entered a poetry competition where the challenge was to create a sequence of rhyming couplets on a particular theme. If I add that the theme was related to a certain type of chocolate-nut spread that was rather popular amongst students, you will understand the calibre of the work required. Even by those hardly exacting standards my contribution was terrible. I have never understood metre and rhyme.” “Or more exactly, I can understand them; but my muse,
