  1. One of my closest friends from high school is gay, we came out to each other more or less first (although he came out before me). I have a lot of gay friends (and a bunch of straight friends as well both guys and girls). But I seem to hang out with my gay friends more often. And ya, my contact list is very gay, lol, except for school friends and friends from home.
  2. I dunno, does the last scene count as a Cliffie? It's good though in this chapter we get a better sense of Nicholas, now I'm hoping everything is okay with his brother.
  3. It's actually legal in New York as well, you can take your shirt off if you're a woman, so long as your intent isn't to be sexual. So for example at the gay pride parade when the dykes on bikes marches topless, no one gets arrested. I think the law is similar in California and a few other states. If you're making a political, artistic or scientific point in public, you can also make a free speech argument for full nudity, lol.
  4. In New York actually, the greeter at the A&F tour never wears a shirt and possibly never wears underwear either, I did try to get a good look.
  5. Although I think if more and more people came out, it would become less of a big deal and in the end make it easier for people to come out. Because there are indeed a lot of gay people in the music business and there are a fair number of openly gay musicians, Melissa Etheridge, Elton John, Rufus Wainwright, Mika -- oh wait scratch that last one, he's not out.
  6. If special means only eats specific things and that's it? Then that's special, lol.
  7. I don't think the word gets less power the more often you say it, I actually think it's the reverse. With my ex, maybe we were a little uncertain when we said it the first time, but as the years went on, it was no doubt true, even if in the end, things didn't work out. It became easier to say. And felt better when I said it. And it's not like the feeling goes away. I mean I do still love him and I know he does me, even though he hurt me and even though I know we just can't be together anymore. That was honestly, the worst part of it all.
  8. What I found interesting about this chapter was two things. First, I thought it's pretty clear that Chris has a puppy dog crush on Andrew. It's sweet and cute. Also I thought it was really a wise move for the mother to just tell her son she knew he was gay and she was fine with that. I mean each mother knows her son best, but I think the mom made the right move to tell her son that it was okay and he didn't have to be afraid. Although one thing I found interesting, Andrew said she had a gay brother. What happened with that? I'm also really curious to see what happens when Andrew asks Jamie to go to Toronto.
  9. I don't think the police will have much of a case considering the law they involved. The first step is that they have to prove the material in question is obscene. And as the Supreme Court has said, obscene material must be lacking in any artistic, scientific or social value. Only if the material is obscene then you could charge them with the offense that they were marketing obscene materials to minors. Basically A&F could walk into court and say if you say we can't display the poster, we might as well close down every museum, movie theater, art gallery, comic book store that dares sells anything that shows bare skin. The law as applied is waaay overbroad in this case.
  10. I finally saw the first episode of Torchwood and it was awesome. Spike (aka James Marsters from Buff) was hilarious. Basically if anyone has ever had an evil ex who messes everything up when they get back into your life, you'll relate to the first episode of the second season.
  11. I don't know how you could have forgotten. I'm pretty sure I didn't let you forget it. Just like when Raffa beat Federer in the French Open, just like he will this year. ;-)
  12. Hehe I told ya he would lose eventually! He beat Federer in the Rogers Cup last year, it was only a matter of time. I only wish it was Raffie who did the beating.
  13. This is really really sad, he was a great actor.
  14. This one is a classic. I Wear My Sunglasses at Night:
  15. By the way, the Centers for Disease Control has issued a "clarification" about the whole new gay superbug. http://www.cdc.gov/od/oc/media/pressrel/2008/t080116.htm The strains of MRSA described in the recent Annals of Internal Medicine have mostly been identified in certain groups of men who have sex with men (MSM), but have also been found in some persons who are not MSM. It is important to note that the groups of MSM in which these isolates have been described are not representative of all MSM, so conclusions can not be drawn about the prevalence of these strains among all MSM. The groups studied in this report may share other characteristics or behaviors that facilitate spread of MRSA, such as frequent skin-to-skin contact. CDC
  16. Another interesting pre-AIDS movie is Dog Day Afternooon. One of the best AIDS-era movies is Longtime Companion and I can't believe I didn't recommend you all see Angels in America, a really excellent miniseries.
  17. One of my favorite artists is Rufus Wainwright and he does a great funny song called "Gay Messiah." It's quite funny and worth a listen.
  18. I Believe When I Fall in Love Stevie Wonder.
  19. What did no one mention summerstorm? Or did we forget about that thread from last week already? ;-) I also like the British movie Beautiful Thing and the American film Edge of Seventeen and the french film Come Undone.
  20. I agree, I won't know if it's a cliffie until i read the next chapter, lol. But I do think Brendan, if he's such a good friend, has a right to be concerned about his friend, hence the suggestion for the Toronto trip. But that's true he has Brendan and he's real lucky to have a friend like that, one who is so concerned about Andrew.
  21. Man you brits are lucky. We don't get the premiere until Jan. 25! No spoilers, lol.
  22. I did no such thing. I'm glad again for Brendan though. He really gives Andrew the advice that he needs to hear. Andrew does need to get out more, have some fun. Jamie seems to get out there. If it wasn't for Brendan, Andrew probably wouldn't even go swimming! And also, does this ending count as a cliffie?
  23. Well if you add Frenchcanadian and tiger together you get 1,000?
  24. Another one gone too early. Renfro was also in some really good movies like Bully, Apt Pupil (with Ian McKellan) and Ghost World. So sad.
  25. Oops I meant to put this in lounge. Somehow I put it in the wrong place!
