    Chapter 21

I think one of the more endearing things about George is that his inner ruminations remain internal. We'll see if I can drum up a new love interest for him. :-)

    Chapter 21

You make a really good point, in that George is very much a creature of the system, so rebelling against it is pretty much incomprehensible to him. When he encounters competent colleagues, he treats them with respect; but when he encounters incompetence, he is loathe to tolerate it.

    Chapter 21

I'm glad you like both of these series! It's becoming harder for George to find a love interest on his ship, because of his growing seniority. And if he's at sea for an extended period of time, that makes it difficult to find love ashore as well. It is the life he's chosen.

    Chapter 21

Great observations about George. The captain of a ship of Valiant's size lives a lonely existence, because he can't completely shed the power and majesty that comes with that position. I think that merely exacerbates the loneliness that he feels.

    Chapter 21

I think that when we look into George's mind and see how he thinks about Caroline, we have to put that into the context of the era that he lives in. We can look at this and see how unfair George is being based on his own promiscuity, but that wasn't the social norm of the late 1700's. Caroline is held to a much higher standard because she's a woman. It's not reasonable to expect George to completely rise above those social conventions. In the end, what really annoys him about Caroline's affairs is her lack of discretion. That is truly maddening to him. I think that George, with the last letter he sent to Caroline, has acknowledged what you've said, and realizes that he needs Caroline as an ally, if not a partner.

    Chapter 21

It did end up with a melancholy ending, but the story isn't over yet.

    Chapter 21

Thanks for the review, Jinty! I'm glad you like George. He is indeed lonely; we'll see if I can ultimately conjure up a love interest for him.

    Chapter 5

You make a really good point about JJ. He is a bitchy diva, both confident and insecure, but as you noted, at least he's aware of his flaws. And I think you're spot on about Darius. I love how he approaches things in a matter-of-fact way.

    Chapter 5

I think the issue here with Cam is pretty much what Darius said: he and Brad moved too fast. He probably got to the point where they were going to fuck, and freaked out, because things were moving too quickly. When things got to that point, Cam probably felt that he was going somewhere he wasn't ready to go, and put distance between him and Brad.

    Chapter 5

I think Darius is a pretty reliable love counselor for Brad, at least when it comes to Cam. Remember that he and Cam are relatively close in age.

    Chapter 5

I think it's really hard to evaluate Alex' motives at this point. In his favor, he did make it to Nebelhorn in time for JJ's performance. I think we'll have to see where this ends up.
  12. I didn't take your comments to be critical at all. It was my intention (probably poorly communicated) that Brad would be a major narrator in this story. I expect Will to be more peripheral.

    Chapter 5

Cam has always been a little bit nervous about diving into a relationship. Notice how he was with Matt in Flux...he was really cautious. I think he's been hurt in the past, so his defenses are pretty high.

    Chapter 5

I think it's pretty funny that a 40 year old guy has to learn how to date from his 20 year old son. :-)

    Chapter 5

    Awesome review!

    Chapter 5

September 7, 2002 Oberstdorf, Germany JJ “JJ, quit beating yourself up. You did fine yesterday,” Tiffany said. She was trying to make me feel better, and to pump me up, only all she was really accomplishing was annoying me. “Fourth place in the short program is not fine,” I said firmly. “That means I probably won’t place.” I didn’t think the other guys ahead of me would do badly enough to plummet in the rankings. “If you do well on the long program

    Chapter 4

I think JJ tries to keep himself immune from the annoyances of modern life, like driving, cooking, and laundry. :-)

    Chapter 21

October, 1799 HMS Valiant Gibraltar Granger was at his desk, attending to his ledgers and correspondence, when Andrews entered his cabin. Granger finished recording a number in one of the columns, and then looked up to focus on this purser who made his job so much easier, and his life so much better. “I see you are back from Spain, Mr. Andrews,” Granger said playfully. “Indeed I am, my lord,” Andrews said. “I had a most successful trip.” “I

    Chapter 4

I'm so glad you're enjoying the story, Michael. I think that Wade's persona, his OCD nature, will always make him seem like he has a stick up his ass.

    Chapter 4

Thanks Kevin. I'm restricted to how many automobile accidents I'm allowed to portray, and since we just had one (Matt in Flux), I think I've used that plot device for the near future, at least.
  22. Your quote showed an absence of a set of quotation marks before 'So'. When I checked the chapter here, the marks were there. Browser issues? Will has a very good concept of responsibility, just not as it relates to a regular job.

    Chapter 4

Gary, A very insightful review. You described the differences in these stories very well. Flux was about transitioning through the grieving process and getting back to 'normal', in as much as that's possible. This story is about moving forward, much as you noted.

    Chapter 4

Thanks Les! This is a building chapter, where characters start to adjust to their new surroundings, and that sets up the future of the story.

    Chapter 4

Another happy chapter. Young guys can be fun...I'm sure Brad appreciates him. I don't see JJ getting laid at this point. At this point.
