I have finished the excellent novel, Dignity and I highly recommend it to everyone. It is an incredibly well written journey that everyone should go on. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed...I know I wasn't. I can't wait for the sequel. Get writing AC...cheers...Gary
Thank you, and I have to say the suggestion you left in your review for Chapter 20 is very, very intriguing to me
Thanks for that too! -
I am getting down to the wire on Dignity...ran out of likes again...and I am getting nervous. It is the easiest thing for me to provide you support...your writing is superb. Just a note...your depiction of Jack's dreams is beyond good...you somehow attain another level in these.
Thanks Gary for posting your comments here.
I know this may sound strange, but I wrote the 5 dreams sequences separately, after everything else. (Although I must have written chapter 19 after i wrote the dream where Jack is back home again.)
I thought about how 'the higher Jack' would tell us about his dream experiences - thus they do not have the same deflecting personality traits that the rest of the text has when he is speaking to us in his waking voice.
Your feedback above makes me feel i have achieved my goal with them.

Made it to Chapter 11 so far...very well written and filled with emotion for the characters and for me...Think i will take a break...good job AC....cheers...Gary
Thank you, Gary! Two members have already told me they read the book in one sitting, THIS WEEK alone - and I sort of felt bad for them. But then again, I did write it to pull the reader along, so that anyone feels strongly enough about it to do that, touches my heart. I think I would need to take my time with it though if I were reading it for the first time; it is a pretty strong brew.

If I were casting the role of Jack Shaw/Sean Holms today, I would already be biased to hand the job over to this young man: Nick Robinson.
He is a fine actor and I can see him pulling off this tough role with aplomb. My introduction to him came by watching an episode of Boardwalk Empire. He stole the show, even though he was pitted against Steve Buscemi, who is arguably one of America's finest actors for his subtly of portrayal. I feel confident that if the writers had somehow known the amazing talent this young man could bring to the part, they would have made his character a permanent one on the series. Check out this clip of an interview with him promoting his first movie, Kings of Summer:

As I have said before, to me Jack looks like this too. He is an average kid, and it is his spirit that makes people fall in love with him. But, I also think Nick is adorable! I will not lie…
So let me know what you think!

Michaela is definitely black. I don't like to come out and say people's race. I try to convery it by their appearance. Plus in Chapter 3, I describe her as channeling a young Aretha Franklin. Fox and Lucas do have curly hair but ultimately the guys I chose represent how I see them. Fox isn't beefy. He has a tall, lean build. Remember he plays soccer. Lucas plays football so he has more of a solid build.
Oh right, i remember the Franklin reference, but believe it or not, that didn't make me think Black, just 'power cool,' lol. Well, now i have to say my crush on Fox, which has always been there, is officially in overdrive.

No, no, no, no. I was a good Muslim girl back then and he certainly gave no particular signs of being interested. But OMG, he was sweet and funny and nerdily handsome and adorable.
Edit: Ok, fine, imagine a dark and shy Ben Whishaw, as modeled above.
Well, you make him sound sweet and very attractive inside and out. Don't get me going on all the boys i had college crushes on. We'd be here all night. Thanks for sharing.

So some of you are curious as to how the characters look or who they are based on. I have posted some links to pictures of actors/actresses whom the characters are based on:
Casey Beaumont (actor Dylan O'Brien from Teen Wolf)
Hugh Beaumont [Patrick Warburton from Seinfeld]
Sophia Winter [Holland Roden from Teen Wolf]
Michaela Roy [bre Scullark from Cycle 5 from America's Next Top Model]
Lucas Lamontagne [Max Adler from Glee & Switched at Birth]
Chandler Bloom [actor Ben Whishaw from Skyfall]
Fox Winter [actor Stephen Strait from Sky High]
Here's going for realness I guess. LoL.
Holy Moly! I have to say, Dylan O'Brien is exactly the way i see Casey; Holland Roden exactly the way i see Sophia...but the others throw me for a bit of a loop. First of all, and i really should go back to chapter one and not make a fool of myself in a public place, but when do you say that Michaela is African American..? Ummm, i guess it missed that, lol. Also, I think you say both Fox and Lucas have dark hair, so that's ok, but i could swear you say both have curls. With Ben Whishaw we're back to the way i see Chandler, and that leaves us with your Fox choice.
First of all, thank you for posting what is arguably one of the steamiest pix on GA. Wooofffff-ola. Stephen Strait is beyond gorgeous...damn, but i was picturing Fox as beefier. Is that not the case?

Oh, and can I say that I'm a tiny bit disappointed that the models for Casey and Hugh are Caucasian? I was modeling Casey on a delicious AA classmate from long ago.
Spill the beans, Irri!!!! What, who, when, how, (how big...ooops)

The Buddy Holly song reminds me a bit of Jacky Shane's Any Other Way.
I love this song! "...tell her I'm Gay, and I wouldn't have it any other way!"
Go gurl!

Awesome, thanks for the tunes.
I'd still advise to place them in situ in the text, so the context is clear. But I can't wait to listen!

Well, I'll start off by saying I love the book. The big strong men around Casey are all very compelling. He has his dad, Lucas his roommate, and Fox his friend and confidant (if he'd only trust him more). The other guys are more like Casey, and maybe a bit more closed off than the big fellas. That is interesting to me...care to comment..? lol
Bryce, I'd like to know if you have a guide to some of the songs mentioned in the book

I never got around to posting who I think is a great actor for Jack's role. When I first showed Lisa (and LISA feel free to chip in now, lol), she replied that he was not very interesting looking, and i said "I know!" Jack is somewhat ordinary, and an average teen. Plus the guy i have in mind can act, and act brilliantly. That's the main thing on choosing any actor for a role.
I will have to dig up some links...stay tuned, plz

Eka was the one of the stars of Spartacus, season 1. He was so touching and believable as one of the gladiator's partners.
-
Thanks to everyone who has read the book and offered support in the form of 'likes' or reviews. I appreciate all of your input.

Yes. I've written so much but I will probably delete it all before I even think about letting anyone read it. I know my writing skills are substandard and my story ideas suck, so I choose to simply not subject myself to the stress and embarrassment of peoples' reviews.
Actually, I've deleted more of what I've written just because I hate my writing. If I hate it, I can only imagine how others will feel.
So, I keep it all to myself.

Ok, for Lyle - how about Corbin Bleu..?

Wiki says Leon Thomas is 20 now, but he looks a lot younger. We need someone who seems mature when paired against Jack.

We need to think of Lyle! He's about 22, and sort of a young Lenny Kravitz. Any ideas..? He has to look hot in cowboy boots and jeans, of course

When i look at Elizabeth Gillies, i am reminded about an old Hollywood anecdote concerning Rosemary Clooney. Back in the 50's she was up for a role in a movie playing a nun. The producer saw her screen test, and said she looked like she had been innocent in her life. I get the same vibe that Elizabeth Gillies has never been 15 years old in her life, and could not pull off the role of Dawn. I may be wrong though.

The Love Song of Lenny Bradshaw by Bryce Lee

Bryce, I'm not gonna cut any slack here, don't get too mad….but…
Wow, so first of all you use the phrase 'her sexuality' to excuse her low-self-esteem acting-out to give unreciprocated oral sex to the very first guy she literally bumps into at the frat party..? Um, because that's what you showed to the reader, not anybody with confidence, not anyone who is honest and upfront. You show her as a self-absorbed user of people, and perhaps one with a drinking problem. Also you say she is very confident and blunt, and equate that to manliness. Well, being an a-hole is not a gender-specific defect. If you want to show us that heart of gold you say she has, you need to do it pretty quickly, because as you can tell by most, if not all of the comments about Sophia, she is getting sympathy and understanding from no one, lol. Honestly, maybe Casey's unhealthy dependency on her is a sign he needs to look for better friends, and more mature company.
