What an elegant short story, exciting, gripping, worrisome, reflective! A variety of escape story, the true-to-life ones which such fiction models being some of my most treasured life memories to have heard from the actual participants. The Norwegian boys' characters were so well drawn as to reduce one to tears at the horrendous risk they took in the story, risks which the resistance has always taken in real life. The emotional impact of this story was heightened by my reading it 3 days after the centenary of the St. Martin's Day's signing of the Treaty of Versailles ending the Great War, the centenary being celebrated by my attending a marvelous live concert of the Britten War Requiem performed by our Philharmonic with a cast of over 300 musicians in the two orchestras, two choruses and three vocalists. Thank you for such a wonderful story. It will be long remembered on my short list of stories.
