Oxygen is one of the most reactive elements due to the configuration of its electron shell. It makes connections easily and rapidly with ionic or covalent bonds. In fact, you might call any fire rapid oxidation. It is known as a promiscuous element for its wild and crazy ways of hooking up with damn near anything. Who says chemistry can't be sexy?

meteoroid - Word of the Day - Wed Dec 6, 2023
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
The Chelyabinsk meteor exploded with an estimated yield of 200 kilotons and did a considerable amount of damage and injuries on the ground. The kind of damage a much larger one might do could be literally civilization ending. This incident inspired NASA, the ESA and the Russians to keep a closer watch on the skies. -

No. Meteoroids are much too small for that kind of destruction. An asteroid could do it, but they are exponentially bigger in scale. While a meteoroid may be big as a tractor-trailer rig, asteroids start out the size of a small city and go up. There has been some debate on whether to call the bigger ones asteroids or dwarf planets. The largest ones we know about have diameters of hundreds of kilometers. -

Meteoroid has a specific scientific meaning. They can be rocks the size of a bus, down to tiny pebbles, or even ice chunks wandering through space under the influence of gravity. There is a constellation of unknown thousands of them in somewhat stable orbits around earth until they are disturbed by gravitational influences like our moon. They only become meteors when they dive into our atmosphere and burn up. Only a rare few, based on their composition or size, make it all the way to the ground. Untold thousands of tons make it down in the form of dust motes. -

I think I was at that show! When I think of midriffs, I am reminded of the half-shirts we used to wear back in the 70s-80s for sports. Noah Hathaway or Boxy from the original Battlestar Galactica(78) or Atreyu from Neverending Story(84) rocking a half-shirt and showing off his midriff. I never missed an episode! -

Dat's how my Saints were for years. They were in the same misbegotten old NFC West division with the Fail-cons, Rams, and 49ers (Montana, Young), winning the division was not happening for decades with the storied legend of the 49ers dynasty happening. It wasn't until the late 90s, the Saints were even decent competition. That's why I'm having fun watching perennial loser Detroit building themselves into a competitive team. Your point is well taken about long-term losers like the Browns, Giants, Jets. They all have one thing in common: sub-par offensive lines. -

A Dizeny villain lair in the caldera of an extinct volcano: KK (rubbing the Pander Stone) How can we pander to the most people and still make the most horrendous Star Warz movie possible? -

I had a nasty bout of that mess after a cold, rainy night game in November. I think it took until spring break for the cough to completely go away. -

Encouraging Rednecks to play croquet is courting disaster. Just imagine a bunch of big, drunk good ole boys with mallets and the one called Cletus says, hey Skeeter. Hold my beer and watch this. -

Many Native American Tribes have mystical elements in their culture. Seeing an animal in the wild, like a fox, bear or an eagle, all had special meaning. -

Nothing is better for the environment than planting trees and cedars smell wonderful. In my part of the country we don’t have spruce, fir or alder that give the forests of the Pacific Northwest their amazing bouquet. I think it’s a good idea to spread cedars around. I plan for one of them to be a permanent outdoor Christmas tree at my house when he grows up. 🌲 -

My favorite conifer is cedar. I run through a grove of them most days. Lately, it has been terribly dry, and I decided to save about a dozen badly stressed seedlings. I gave most of them away, but still have three from 8 to 32 inches tall in pots with good soil and adequate water. They seem pleased as they have turned a healthy green from a sickly yellow, and they are growing. . -

The only time I have ever heard shrimp called prawns was in Seattle back in the seventies. My brother was stationed nearby so I flew out to ride back with him and we explored Seattle. There in a park was a food truck full of Limeies selling good fish & chips. I had never had fish & chips, so I tried them. Yum! He was also selling prawns and chips, but they weren’t moving as well as you would think. It seems us dumb ‘Mericans didn’t know what they were. -
Every Thanksgiving week for many years, I've prepared a Lasagna on Monday. The reason for this is quite logical. I love it, and have been making it for years. In a week dominated by cooking a turkey, how did lasagna become involved? To answer that question, we must travel back in time to a golden age: the late eighties. The family gets together, we have a turkey feast and football. So, before traveling to my parents, I made a lasagna. It's one of my best recipes and it always turns out good. My mother and her sisters, who had the kitchen in a state of disaster, were DELIGHTED at the appearance of the unanticipated lasagna. They put it in the oven and were no longer distracted by having to make lunch or dinner on that crucial Tuesday and Wednesday of Thanksgiving week. This became my Thanksgiving tradition. I always make a lasagna on Monday and it's always a hit. The turkey and all the trimmings are for Thursday. However, smelling all of that cooking makes you hungry. Having lasagna on hand makes the whole thing work. So... happy Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy a square of lasagna! Think of it as an appetizer.
