  1. Angel slept the day away. Charlie and Marcus hovered near him the whole time, talking in low voices, going round and round in circles. Once or twice Angel stirred, moaning in his sleep or calling out for Marcus who always went to him and held him until he settled again. They were both worried. Angel had been having seizures since he was five years old. By the time he was seven he pretty much had them under control and they only cropped up when he was unusually stressed, tired or unwell

    Chapter 9

Marcus opened his eyes and groaned. His head was throbbing and his mouth was dry. Had he really drunk so much the night before? He must be losing his touch. Usually he could drink as much as he wanted and not suffer so much as a twinge the next day. Must be getting old... or maybe it was the stress. Damn the Bishops. He rolled over and put his arm around Angel, stroking his back gently. He felt cold and Marcus pulled the duvet around them both. Angel stirred and snuggled into him mo

    Chapter 8

It was wonderful to ride through the English countryside on a warm summer afternoon and the three friends laughed until their sides ached as they ate their picnic on the hill overlooking the white horse. The sun was shining, everything was green and fresh, life was good. Angel lay in the soft grass, his head in Marcus’ lap and his face being tickled by a long stem of heavy grass being wielded by Charlie. He was perfectly and utterly content. “How do you fancy spending the day in

    Chapter 7

“So when did this happen? When did you know?” “I’ve known for a long time... I don’t know exactly when... but a long time. I had no idea how Angel felt until tonight.” “Neither did I.” “But you had a girlfriend.” “Honey, I’ve had a LOT of girlfriends.” “But... but...” “Look... don’t ask ME how it works... I have no idea. I’ve had plenty of women and I’ve loved every one of them... in my own way but it’s never been anything like this.” He looked at Ange

    Chapter 6

The Charity Ball was something of an occasion. Anyone who was anyone was there, including the paparazzi for dozens of magazines, newspapers and television programmes. If he was being honest Marcus couldn’t have cared less about attending but his friends were excited about it and he was caught up in their enthusiasm. He was feeling... odd. Since their conversation in the tack shed Angel hadn’t exactly avoided him but he had entirely avoided talking about what had happened and there was

    Chapter 5

Passing through the gap between the buildings Marcus found himself in an open area bordered by scrub. The path began on the other side, alongside some stone outbuildings and climbed steeply to a hedge which blocked of his view of the gardens and house beyond. There was no sign of anyone. As he approached the outbuilding he noticed that the door was open. He couldn’t help glancing inside as he passed. It was dark and dusty filled with dim shapes, some hanging from the ceiling some hunch

    Chapter 4

Angel wandered in nightmares of friends whose faces changed to masks which hounded him and drove him into darkness and fire. He tossed and turned moaning and muttering until he finally slipped into a deeper, dreamless sleep. He woke suddenly, his eyes seeing only darkness. He felt cold, very cold and he tried to reach for the covers but he was frozen and couldn’t move. Fear gripped him and he tried to turn his head but he couldn’t. Everything felt unreal, the darkness pressed on him,

    Chapter 3

Marcus must have fallen asleep at some point, exhausted by the emotions that had battered against his defences until he felt weak and vulnerable. He woke with a start to find Angel staring at him. For a moment he was overwhelmed with flood of tenderness, so intense it almost swept away all his inhibitions, almost. With supreme effort he forced the feelings down and brought the shutters down, failing to see the hurt look in Angel’s eyes when he did do. “Are you alright? How are you

    Chapter 2

By the time Angel switched off the laptop he could barely see the screen. Fatigue was tugging at his mind and wrapping it in a blanket of fog. He didn’t even make it to the bathroom and was barely able to peel off his clothes and throw them onto the floor before sinking into a deep sleep. He awoke suddenly some time in the middle of the night. Everything was still and silent. He lay for a while listening to his heart beat loudly in his ears and then he closed his eyes again with a sigh.
  10. Angel is about to come into his inheritance but not everyone is happy about that. His guardian, Charles is about to be out of a job, a home and a very cushy lifestyle. When Angel's friends visit they begin to suspect that Charles might be prepared to do a little more than just push Angel around in order to make his life a misery in the time he has left.

    Chapter 1

With a sigh he snapped closed the lid of his laptop and ran his hand through his hair. He felt weary to the bone and the argument had shaken him more than he would care to admit. He was sitting on his bed, cross legged with his back against the headboard and he laid the laptop aside and slid down to lie staring up at the ceiling. His mind was racing and, as tired as he was there was no chance of sleep any time soon. Closing his eyes he thought about his friends and, despite everything a sm

    Prologue

FallenAngel: Ah well... only two days to go. At least when you are here I will have something to keep me sane. Sometimes I think the Addams Family are deliberately trying to drive me insane. LadyPink: Awww... hang on in there sweetie. I’ve got a special hug just waiting for you. FallenAngel: *smiley face* CusCus: Don’t expect a hug off me. I’m going to slap your face for letting them get to you. I told you... you should stay the hell away from them... they’re poison. FallenAngel: *si

    Chapter 33

This time Jayden was only in hospital for a few days. His rib, although painful was not broken and his arm was set and plastered the first night. The main thing that worried the doctors was the wound on his stomach and the danger of infection. Once they were sure that the wound was healing cleanly and he had rested and recovered they let him go home with a course of antibiotics and strict instructions to take things easily for a few weeks. The media storm over what

    Chapter 32

There was absolute silence except for the sound of Kelly’s soft sobbing and Jayden’s moans as he cradled his arm against his injured side. The boys were still and stunned, no one wanted to move, to break the spell, to make this real. No one had noticed when Luc knelt silently next to Jayden. No one had noticed when he leaned in slightly towards Kelly, enough to see everything but not to draw attention to himself. No one noticed the expression on his face which was one of sorrow, betrayal a

    Chapter 31

Goaded by Cal, Luc broke just about every speed limit as he raced back to the town where all of them, except Jeff, had at least one time called home. “For God’s sake Luc can't you go any faster?” “If I go any faster we’ll be flying.” “Then do it – fly.” “Seriously Cal, the last thing we want is to be held up for hours by a traffic policeman who wants to make a mark on his career by booking a notorious rock group.” Cal grumbled but subsided – until they were caught i

    Chapter 30

The first thing Jayden became aware of was pain. He almost cried out but for some reason it was really important that he didn’t, so he swallowed the cries and struggled to extend his senses to the room around him. Then he heard the voices: “It’s taking too long. I think he’s really hurt. Oh God, what if we’ve killed him?” The voice was high, filled with panic and bordering on hysteria. “Calm down Anya. He’s hurt, but not badly. Don’t forget he’s full of drugs. He’s had enough today t

    Chapter 29

Kelly picked up the phone on the second ring. “Hello?” “Is everything set?” “Yes hun. Don’t worry; we’ll be there.” “Does Jayden know you are coming here?” Anya sounded very nervous. “No, of course not,” Kelly said reassuringly. “Don’t worry it’ll be fine once I get him there.” “Is he... I mean. How is he?” “Pretty fucked up.” “Oh.” Anya sounded as if she was about to cry. “Not having second thoughts are you? We don’t have to come. You don’t have to see hi

    Chapter 28

“It’s been three days. Three goddamn days. Where is he? Surely he should have turned up somewhere. No one’s seen him for three DAYS.” Cal slammed his fist down on the table. Jeff shook his head sadly. He knew exactly how he felt but what could he do? What could anyone do? “He’ll turn up in his own time Cal.” Rik said without conviction. “It’s Jay; you know what Jay’s like.” Cal glared at him. “This is different. This...” “How is it different Ca

    Chapter 27

The car journey back to Kelly’s home was tense and passed mainly in silence. Jayden alternated between dozing and staring bleakly out of the window with dull, hunted eyes. Kelly stole glances at him from time to time. The bruises were standing out livid against his pale skin and she was concerned that he might have been more badly hurt than he was letting on. On the whole though, it was the pain on the inside rather than that on the outside which concerned her. Sh

    Chapter 26

Jayden wasn’t thinking of anything as he ran. The horror, shock and, above all the overwhelming shame had faded and he was simply numb. It had taken a few falls, grazes to his knees and hands, a nasty bang on the head and a twisted ankle to drive home the message that running over uneven ground with your trousers half down really wasn’t a good idea. Pausing to pull them up and fasten them he heard a shout in the distance. Cal was looking for him, coming after him. Of course he was. He had

    Chapter 25

Jayden cracked open his eyes to a misty world of subdued light and no colour. There were voices nearby but they were low and muted. He sighed deeply and there was instantly someone there, holding his hand and stroking his hair. He opened his eyes and blinked them a few times until the blurred image resolved itself into Cal. He looked worried. Jayden smiled sleepily and reached for him. Leaning over to hug him Cal moaned. “Fuck Jay, you have got to stop doing that. My heart can’t take it.”

    Chapter 24

The day of the performance was high octane as usual. Cal tried to spare Jayden as much stress and pressure as possible and for once he was glad of it and tried to avail himself of the chance to kick back a little and take the pace more slowly than he would have done before. While the boys helped with loading the van Jayden sat listlessly in the back of the car and he was quiet, although personable enough, throughout the journey. “Are you okay?” “Just a little tense. I know I wa

    Chapter 23

The boys were giggling like fools by the time they got to the limo. Cal whooped and grabbed Jayden, swinging him off his feet. “That was awesome. Who knew you were such a bastard.” Jayden grinned, squirming out of Cal’s arms. “I’m shocked. I thought I have made that clear on many occasions.” “Never.” Cal sobered and reached out to Jayden , his eyes intense. “To me you’ve always been angel, and nothing’s changed.” “Maybe more of a fallen angel then.” “An angel nevert

    Chapter 22

Surprisingly Jayden insisted on an interview with Manya Cole. When pressed about it he simply said that it would be interesting and, ‘given the situation’ it would be fun and popular with their fans. The ‘situation’ he was talking about was the fact that even before the official programme was broadcast video footage taken by one of the visitors who had been pushed out and pissed off by the film crew, found it’s way to YouTube. Of course it was completely unedited and had become something o

    Chapter 21

“Jay? Are you okay?” Cal asked when he recovered his ability to think and to speak. Jayden didn’t move or make a sound and Cal began to get worried. “Jay, please speak to me, tell me you’re okay.” Slowly Jayden raised his head and stared at Cal, his eyes stunned and wide. Even more slowly his lips lifted into a sweet, triumphant, smile. “I did it.” He whispered before his eyes rolled and he passed out cold. “Shit. Fuck. What the... Jayden? Jayden.” With some d
