Cal lay in his room and contemplated a dark patch on the ceiling where he had experimented with tacking posters to the ceiling and taken off a whole patch of plaster which he had to re plaster himself. He sighed. The poster had been of a band he had never heard of or really liked. He had only put it up because... he sighed again. It had been Jayden’s poster. He wondered where Jayden was, how long he would be out there in the cold. There was an ache in his heart at the thought of it, the thou

Jayden slept all the way home in the car and then for the rest of the afternoon and into the evening. Cal would have checked on him every five minutes but his mother Eileen refused to allow Cal to wake him. “But he won’t sleep tonight.” “I doubt that Cal, but even so let him have his sleep out now when he needs it. He looks exhausted. He always looks exhausted these days.” Cal sighed. “He is. He just keeps pushing himself and I don’t know what to do to make him stop.”
-
By the next morning Jayden was back to his prior self, cold and aloof. After their kiss he had waited until Cal went to sleep and spent an uncomfortable half hour staring at his face, buffeted by so many emotions that in the end he simply closed his eyes and let them take him where they would. When he could stand it no longer he slipped out of bed and limped to the bathroom, reaching for his pain medication. As his hand closed around the bottle the pain hit him. It wasn’t a physical pain,

Cal kept his promise to Jayden. He was there. He was always there. The only time he left Jayden’s room was to eat, use the bathroom or when Helen was there with him. Not even the doctor tried to get him to leave when he was working with Jayden. He was no longer cautious and started talking about what would happen when Jayden left the hospital. Day by day, as Helen and the physiotherapists, who appeared as soon as he was strong enough to lift his head and move his body, worked with him

Helen sat and listened carefully as Cal recounted, as accurately as he could, what Jayden had told him. Listening to the words had been hard but speaking them was harder still. When Jayden had been speaking he had been looking into that sweet face, those beautiful eyes and had been more concerned with sparing him pain than anything else. Now he had no such luxury and the words were stripped bare, their meaning slicing into his heart as he uttered each one. When he had finished he lapsed

Before the second interview Jeff had a long chat with the interviewer, an eager young man on the break of his career. Fortunately he was a huge Weeping Lily fan himself and had been shocked and devastated by what had happened. He didn’t need Jeff’s gently suggestions about being sensitive... he already was. Cal behaved himself completely, responding to the young reporter’s earnest and respectful manner. By the end he almost found himself having fun and it made him feel guilty.

As soon as Cal gave an indication that he was okay with moving ahead with the plans for keeping the group in the public eye Jeff was on the phone and he arranged for two interviews for that very afternoon. He also arranged for wardrobe and makeup to attend the hospital and turned the lounge into a makeshift dressing room. Everywhere there was frenetic activity and, for the first time since the fateful party everyone, except Cal, was all smiles again. As for Cal he

Everyone was eating when he walked into the lounge. Kelly was there too, tucked into a corner with Luc, whispering about something. They’d got takeaway. “Hey Cal... we got some for you... your favourite. I was just about to come and get you.” He faltered to a halt at the look on Cal’s face. At the silence everyone looked up. “What’s wrong? Is it Jayden?” “Now you worry about Jayden? It’s a shame you weren’t so worried this morning.

Cal kept his promise to Jayden and went back to the hotel. He was sneaked out the back way under police guard, driven to the hotel and sneaked in at the tradesman’s entrance. He hated the sneaking but he would have hated the mobbing more. It wasn't until he was standing under the shower, his tense muscles finally beginning to relax, that Cal fully realised just how tired he was. He was barely able to find the energy to wipe himself and fall into bed. The hotel room was eerily q

“Jay... I...” Kelly’s heart was hammering in her chest as she stared into the cold brown eyes. She had thought that her brother hadn’t changed, that he was the same... the same boy. She had thought that he was sick and weak and that he would be... broken... and maybe he was but now she could see something else... now she could see that same spirit that had made him fight back even though he knew it would get him a worse beating. Kelly bit her lip and trembled. Jayden watched his sister

When they were alone Jayden drew Cal down on to the bed next to him. “I had a dream.” “What kind of a dream?” “A weird one. I dreamed that we... that we... kissed. Not like before... I mean... properly and... and I...” He stopped squeezing his eyes closed. “It’s okay Jayden... you don’t have to...” Jayden opened his eyes and they were haunted. “No... no listen. You... you pulled away and... and your eyes were... you said... you said terrible things to me, called me n

Over the next 24 hours Jayden slept. Occasionally he opened his eyes briefly, long enough to be sure that Cal was there... he always was. The others took turns to sit with them but Cal was always there and he was rarely even aware of who was with him. Every one of them tried to drag him away... to eat... to sleep, but he wouldn’t budge. He couldn’t bear the thought that he might miss a moment, a step... most of all he was terrified that if he left Jayden would slip away before h

When Cal walked out of the room he didn’t stop there. He walked out of the ward, out of the hospital, out of his mind. Miraculously he entirely failed to attract any media attention and eventually found himself in a bar with a drink in his hand. Someone was talking to him. “Hey man, you okay? You look like you’ve got the weight of the world on your shoulders.” Cal glanced up at the man who was sitting on the bar stool next to him. “Woman trouble?”

For more than three hours Cal sat and stared at Jayden, replaying memories inside his head. At some point Rik left and first Ashton, then Jeff came and went and, in between, doctors and nurses checked on Jayden, surreptitiously checking on both of them. After a while they stopped talking to Cal and left him alone. He didn’t care. He didn’t even notice. He was numb. There was nothing that anyone could say that would reach him, not unless it was the one thing that no one was able

D.S. Davis was on his way to speak to the Finchley girl when he received a telephone call from D.I. Blake. “Where are you?” “On my way to Kensington to speak to Anabelle Finchley. The clinic has confirmed she was responsible for ordering the medical supplies and I’ve just had a call confirming the address they delivered to and it’s the same one the clinic gave me for Anabelle.” “Hold fire. Go there but don’t go in. Her friend cracked like an Easter Egg. Be

Sergeant Davis was at the Bradford Clinic at seven the next morning. The techies had left, taking a stack of paperwork and computer access codes with them. He was slightly disappointed as he had hoped to speak with them. The manager was not pleased to see him. “A person could get the feeling we are being made the subject of a witchunt here. We have been nothing but co operative with you. Why are you harassing me?” “It is nothing personal Ms Becker. You are currently helpin

Detective Inspector Blake wasn’t watching the clock. If he had been he would have seen it was past midnight. On any normal day he would have been home hours ago, would by now have been chilling with a cold beer or, even better, in bed with his beautiful wife. But this was not a normal day; this was the day on which one of the biggest up and coming stars of the decade went missing on his patch and, as if that wasn’t bad enough, it transpired that his daughter was a Weeping Lily fan and had to

The first thing that Jayden became aware of was pain, a jarring, insistent pain in his head that, bit by bit, drew him away from the cool safe darkness towards the harshness of consciousness. At this stage he didn’t really know why he wanted to hold on to the darkness he only knew that he really didn’t want to wake up. The next thing that filtered through was the voice. It seemed quite a nice voice, sincere and urgent, calling his name, calling him back. Finally he

No one was concerned when Jayden didn’t return to the hotel that night, neither did Cal. However they all started to get twitchy as midday approached and there was still no sign, no word. Even Cal had turned up by ten thirty looking dishevelled, stale and somewhat sheepish and Cal was the one who was always late. A quick call confirmed that there was no one called Siona on the guest list for the party and they began to get seriously concerned. Jayden wasn’t answering his phone and, aft

Weeping Lily is a band, a group of friends with an unique style who are definately going places. Their star is on the ascendent and, against expectations they are taking the world by storm. They have everything they ever dreamed of. However, one of them is wounded possibly beyond repair, one of them is in love with the wrong person and all of them are confused. Then something happens, something so huge and terrible it rips their world apart. Will any of them recover?

The buzz was incredible. They couldn’t have been still if they’d wanted to and they didn’t want to. They bounced. They talked over each other. They slapped each other on the back and they grinned. They just couldn’t stop grinning. The roar of the crowd was still loud in their heads and faintly audible by their ears through the closed doors. As performers they lived for the performance and they had just given the performance of their lives, including three encores, and the crowd were

HAHA. WOOOO Go Cia. AWESOME story by the way and about time for another couple of chapter Cia babe. You've left them in a horrible situation and whilst I personally like leaving my characters in horrible situations I think that the more faint hearted out there might be into their nail beds just about now

So I am going to have to review the whole thing over again. It has been quite a journey even to this point. I love the richness of the writing. There is always something more than we need to know. The description is vivid and the emotion flows through the whole thing. I am very glad that Dan was okay but it was worrying to see what happened to Matt as I would hazard a guess that he is going to have to do that again at some point. Nice chapters, Wonderful story
