I walk the barren path - 6. The Lightning Strike

A chance of redemption

The lightning strike

My form invisible, yet these tears feel real.

I see him lying next to me, he is crying his fill.

Cradling the body, all battered and broken,

Clutching my bracelet, the only token,

Of the love we once shared, and that we still know

But alas it’s no more, or no more can it show

In one fit of sadness, my footing slipped,

And now it is gone, this life I have skipped.

My sadness my own, no one’s fault,

locked away from all, my own dark vault.

The storm clouds roll in, the darkening scene

I can see my past life, what has and has been.

My mistakes are many, and forgive myself I have not

Because, deep inside me, I have not forgot

The feelings I felt and now do still feel,

Of the lack of self worth and the shrinking away,

Closing my eyes, holding the thoughts at bay.

The lightning strikes once and it offers me a sign,

A chance to redeem, one last chance to shine.

A fork strikes the horizon, and now I do know,

I dive for my body and it begins to glow.

My love is amazed, startled and confused,

His eyes look at me with a slight glint of the bemused

He sees in my eyes that it is truly me,

And wrap me in his arms, shouting with glee.

I sob into his shirt and now he consoles me,

Easing my troubles, his attention solely,

On what I am feeling, he has always cared,

One last chance, for him to know his love is returned and shared.

Please let me know what you think of these poems, even just a simple 'Love it!' or 'it's rubbish' :P
