I walk the barren path - 8. Emptiness
When you hurt the ones you love is it worth still living?
As their sobs hit your ears, do you reach into your own sadness?
Do you look hard at yourself and the old emotions rise up?
The self hate, the doubts, the emptiness
The need for the sound of my lover’s laugh and gentle tone
The sound that will not come, my mind nagging of all my faults
Those handful of colours seem inviting as I raise them to my lips
‘You’re worthless, why are you still breathing?’ my mind taunts
‘why are you still living?’ it goads
I break down and the colours are swallowed
I lay on the floor, wracked with sobs, as the colours turn my vision to darkness
