I walk the barren path - 8. Emptiness

When you hurt the ones you love is it worth still living?

As their sobs hit your ears, do you reach into your own sadness?

Do you look hard at yourself and the old emotions rise up?

The self hate, the doubts, the emptiness

The need for the sound of my lover’s laugh and gentle tone

The sound that will not come, my mind nagging of all my faults

Those handful of colours seem inviting as I raise them to my lips

‘You’re worthless, why are you still breathing?’ my mind taunts

‘why are you still living?’ it goads

I break down and the colours are swallowed

I lay on the floor, wracked with sobs, as the colours turn my vision to darkness

For each tear shed the voices should be silenced. For if you can not forgive yourself how can the lover forgive. Powerful piece Stu. Not what I was expecting after so long a silence. Glad to see you writing again though.

Live on after hurting the love of your life,

Even if it is only to mend there broken heart,

The doubt, the Hatred and the emptiness,

Only those you love can cure these thoughts.

If only you could here the sound of you love,

Trying ever so hard to break through your thoughts of pain,

We all know the mind is a fragile thing,

Yet we still open our hearts even though we know,

There will be pain and trills mostly in your mind,

Share your pain with those you love and care for,

and the colours of life will renew.
