Haunting Memories - 1. Chapter 1

Memories are tricky things.

I remember one rainy day playing hide & seek in the house.

I remember you lifting me up to hide on the top shelf of the wardrobe.

The older kids couldn’t find me.

I remember your laughter. It was our secret.

I also remember you getting angry one day when I lost my gym socks.

I remember you beating me until I couldn’t walk.

The older kids didn’t try to save me.

I remember missing school for the next two days.

I remember finding pills with names I couldn’t pronounce.

I remember your smile. You had the biggest dimples I’ve ever seen.

I remember you chasing butterflies.

I remember you breaking all the mirrors in the house.

I remember you arguing alone in the dark.

I remember hearing whispers when we walked by.

They would ask why anyone would try to save a failing marriage by having another baby.

I remember them shaking their head and say poor thing got stuck with two.

I remember you dancing.

I remember your beauty.

I remember your last words… and your last breath.

She wasn't perfect, but she was the only parent I had.
