2014 - Fall - Scars Entry

Ripped - 1. Poem One

Ripped

by Foster

My self torn meant
Torment
Towering
Abyss
My view from inward
Outward
On the top
Of the bottom
Of my own
Sierra
Of scars
It would be hard to breathe
At the depth
Of this height
Here…
The air is choking
On regret
And awe
What
Beauty
I possess (process)
Has roots tangled now
Thriving in the ugliness of my decay
In the eons of a lifetime
In here
Down here
Where
There
Lies
Me
Ever prideful
Of the fall
If I exist at all
But a speck makes waves
Whether or not
Awareness takes notice
This egocentric devil I am
Honestly
Believes
He’s the most altruistic angel of them all

I've seen this short, sharp, eloquent use of words used once before, and it amazed me.

I've never been able to fathom how a writer can use just one single word to convey so much meaning and progress that through a whole arc of thought. It amazes me.

I really admire this Foster. Wish I had this ability and skill with words.

Fantastic poem, one of my fav in a long time.

this... confuses me. But don't take that badly. All good poetry confuses me slightly.

and I feel... faintly guilty. As though I have done something terrible and potentially wonderful at the same time.

If this is the weirdest review you've ever had, I am sorry, and a little bit proud.

Thank you for reading and making a response. :)

Interesting. I saw this as a kind of metaphor... the damage natures does to itself... like the damage we do to ourselves... okay, that's a simile, but whatever. :P

All the words are well placed, and they do pack a wallop... I especially liked this...

The air is choking
On regret
And awe
What
Beauty
I possess (process)
Has roots tangled now
Thriving in the ugliness of my decay
In the eons of a lifetime

and this...

But a speck makes waves
Whether or not
Awareness takes notice

and of course your brilliant ending...

This egocentric devil I am
Honestly
Believes
He’s the most altruistic angel of them all
