Reflection

Mirror says I need to change
Parts and pieces rearrange
What makes self and sight match?
Soul to body attach?
Self-expressions ignored
Expectations deplored
All options come with fear
Loose all that I hold dear
Newborn yet, too, I die
My mirror's now no lie

I agree you've got a good rhythm going, though my musical ear is lousy so I kept having problems when listening to the song. I really like the succinctness with which you've expressed your concept in the poem, too. The last two lines are incredibly ominous-sounding! And it's right where I was expecting the happy ending :(
Thanks for the feedback. I'm not good at hearing music either. The 4th couplet doesn't really work with the music and the last one is a little rough too, but they both read well enough on their own. Thanks for commenting. While maybe not happy, the last line should be read as a sort of contentment or satisfaction that the self in the mirror is a true self. But the road to truth is uneven, for sure, much like my writing!
