Musings of a Mongoose - 5. Dragonslayers

I don't know what this will inspire for me, but I could think of nowhere else to place it.

I have a magnificent problem.

It soars like a dragon above me, majestic and great, powerful and nearly omnipotent to my frail, human perspective.

As deadly and ferocious as it may be, it is a stunning work of art, glorious and mighty, reigning supreme over all other beasts I have tamed before.

Yet, I am the Dragonslayer, and I have but one task. The beast consumes our flocks and herds as its fires consume our homes. I must, through the strength of divinity or by some yet unknown ingenuity, put the beast to rest, destroying the work of art and ridding the world of such a magnificent creature.

And that is the true tragedy, that we cannot coexist with such magnificent beings.

Oh, to find another way to peace beyond annihilation!

If only the dragon could be tamed.

If only the dragon would tame me.
