Love Looked at Me and Laughed and other poems - 11. optimism wanes, reality finds

.

Poem No. 27

Optimism wanes, reality finds

I am alone

Help disdains, sorrow binds

I am alone

Memory pains, worry reminds

I am alone.

Poem No. 28

Love looked at me and laughed,

For it saw how blind I was to that;

His heart hooked into me but half.

Love looked at me and laughed,

All the time it saw and knew,

His heart hooked in me but half.

Love looked at me and laughed,

All the time it saw and knew,

His heart hooked in me but half;

That was plain to all, but nothing new.

Love looked at me and laughed.

Poem No. 29

Prelude:

We filled the 7-Eleven

with energy.

The lady attendant

felt it, but did not understand.

She stood there, and sensed it all around her,

wondered why she suddenly felt different,

looked and found it in every corner,

listened and heard it in every sound.

The little 7-Eleven glowed,

but could not contain it.

The lady attendant felt, but,

could not understand it.

Poem:

What power could be greater,

what force could break through,

two hearts together

in the hour when love is new.

No strength has been its equal,

no single heart its rival,

two minds their sequel,

in the hour of love’s arrival.

Every goal has its dreams,

that everyone wants true,

no matter how it seems;

whatever action it might do.

All the 7-Elevens in the world,

could not contain

What the lady attendant

could not explain.

Chapter Comments

No 27 and No 28 are some sad poems full of pain and heartache and I think probably every reader felt like this in his or her life once.  While 29 holds observations and memories of better times. All of them are awesome and moving. I like the choice of the order, it leaves the reader with the good memories that ease the memory of pain a bit. Thank you for sharing your amazing work. Muha

it always takes time to process the emotions that good poetry pulls from me. these are no exception, i've read them numerous times today.

27 is a cold, barren place to be

28, well it's hard when we find that we've loved fully, & the object of our affections hasn't

29 is so full of energy! that rush & glow & energy of the first blush of love/lust/like it does seem to affect everyone who comes in contact with it

thank you again for sharing these, trusting us with them

Number 27, is sad, yet i think we often feel like that at some point in our lives. poets maybe do more often, or maybe we just express it more when it happens. You do not even have to be really alone to feel it.

Number 28, is difficult and sad. we fall for someone fully, only to find they do not feel as much ... hard as it is, these times teach us to be careful and have a more watchful heart.

Number 29, is alive with new love .. but if that turns into a real bond, a commitment ... i think that same energy lingers on. people can see it in truly committed couples. This is a wonderful poem because it has captured that energy that filled the 7-Eleven that day.

The order of the poems is presented as they were written, but I almost posted No. 27 and No. 28 alone here. I'm glad I added No. 29, because people really responded well to it in the context the poems that precede it :)

Thanks for your comments and encouragement. I appreciate it

29 makes me smile, and want to dance. It’s an antidote to every grey cloud, every sullen sky. Some people may never comprehend it. 28 makes me want to weep bitter tears, its repetition sounds like sobs wrung from a broken heart. 27 is a fretful tune, hummed in a voice unable to choose minor or major as a key. All three are compelling.

Thank you, Parker. I'm glad No. 29 brought some lifted spirits to your day :) That is great feedback.

And yes, the other two are expressions of grief and loss. Thank you, as always, for reading and encouraging me :)

Thank you, Molly! It's good that you read and take time to let things settle. It's one thing to be in a position to feel and write them, but another to receive feedback. That they connect with readers is always the best information I can receive, and your comments here tell me they hit home with you :)

Thanks once more

Thank you, Tim. I like  your thoughts on all of the poems. These were not fun to write, much less revisit to type up and post, but pain seems to be something most people can relate to. No. 29 is a special poem, and I'm glad I posted it in context with the two preceding it.

Thanks again ❤️
