Love Looked at Me and Laughed and other poems - 8. Self-protection for the heart

.

Poem No. 17

There is a selfishness that only siblings can breed,

From the stranglehold of sharing they long to be freed.

Self-protection for the heart,

Mere corrections for the mind.

Prying mentors from the start,

Are aggravations left behind.

Poem No. 18

When in the chronicle of wasted time

the chapter is turned to thoughts of you

I must shut the volume closed again

not finding a single entry there.

No second spent with you

was ever one of waste.

Poem No. 19

Sweet the night that brings you back to me

relieved of the everyday sorrows

Poem No. 20

To find you there

in my first waking thought

no longer does grip me

without surprise

How many ways can I say it:

night and day, before and after.

How to say it, so you will know

I love you now, as I loved you then

To find you there

the last before I sleep

no longer worries me.

I hope you've come to the same

All four of them absolute wonderful. Still No 18 got me stuck, a very powerful picture. And even No 19 is a night poem, it is full of light. And finally this stanza:

"How many ways can I say it:

night and day, before and after.

How to say it, so you will know

I love you now, as I loved you then"

You know, I hear music while reading it, it is so beautiful. 🙂

Each of these in turn made me smile. Number 20 knocked my socks off, though. Your use of time was wonderful in that.

as always, i'm just blown away

but, oh, AC...number 19 oh my heart!
that feeling of coming home to your love, where whatever s%%t storm that happened at work, it's all just washed away by the presence of the one you love

and you did it in 14 words!  what kind of alchemy is this?

if GA had a Poet Laureate title, you'd deserve it

xoxo

Thank you for this, Parker, my friend. I'm pretty sure I never intended to overwhelm anybody with these, but I appreciate hearing they have some power. Thanks once more.
