The Preacher's Kid: College and Beyond - 18. The Making of a Family

While I had intended for this to be the last chapter, as it happens so often when wrapping up a story, I decided to end this chapter with a mini-cliffhanger. The next chapter will definitely be the last one in this book.
Enjoy!
-Geoff

It was the first night since we had been at the lake house that Matty and I didn’t have sex. But, in some beautiful—yet weird—way, I can honestly say we made beautiful love. There were no orgasms, no moans, but there was a connection like nothing either of us had experienced before.

After we finished our Zoom session with the family, we didn’t say much to each other. I knew we had some shit to talk through, so I made some of Mom’s homemade hot cocoa, handed a cup to Matty, and led him out to the deck.

Lights from other houses cast twinkling reflections on the lake. The silence was broken by an occasional frog—or cricket—or some sort of critter.

We silently stared out at the water for several minutes when Matty quietly asked, “Are we doing the right thing? Are you really okay with all of this? I can’t bear the thought of losing the most important person in my life.”

I sighed, took a sip of my cocoa, and set it down on the table between us. “First of all, you are sooo not gonna lose me, baby. But, I will be honest and tell you, I was extremely pissed this afternoon when you told me about her call. I think that’s a typical reaction. But then, I would also like to think that I might be—or should be—a little bit beyond typical. So I thought of the one person I know who is so far beyond typical, it just—”

“Your dad?”

“Of course.”

“Okay, that makes sense.”

“So, I asked myself how Dad would counsel someone from the church who found themselves in this kind of situation. I could hear him ask, ‘In a perfect world, what will your life with Matty look like ten years from now?’ No matter how many times I would hear him ask that one question, the answer was always the same—we would be married, we’d both have jobs that we were passionate about, and our home would be filled with the giggles and laughter of children—our children.”

“I have the same vision for us, Eddie.”

“I know you do.”

I reached out for Matty and brought him over to my lounge chair. He sat between my legs and settled in with his cup of cocoa.

“So I imagined what Dad would say next.”

“I know what he would say. And I believe it’s exactly what you would say to someone in the same situation as ours.”

“Yeah?”

“If you let Him, God will guide and help you get to your vision. It may not always look exactly the same, it may not happen at the time in your life you thought it would, but it will be good. It will be right. And, most importantly, it will be blessed.”

“Do you believe that, Matty?”

“With all my heart and soul.”

“You know, that’s almost word-for-word what I was thinking this afternoon. I know we’re doing the right thing. Regardless of how it happened, a child is coming into the world—an innocent child—your flesh and blood. We both want children. This pregnancy isn’t all that different than if we had decided to get a surrogate further down the road. I promise you, Matty—I’m as committed to this child—our child—as I am to you.”

“Jesus, Eddie. We’re gonna have a baby. Doesn’t that scare the Hell outta you?”

“It scares the fucking Hell outta me. But if you think about it, do you think Mom is gonna let either of us fuck this thing up? I promise you. We’ll make mistakes—probably a lot of them. I also promise you that our family will be there to help us fix things every time.”

“You know something, Eddie? I should be having a massive panic attack. I should be freaking out over all of this. But, in truth, I’ve never felt so calm—so at peace. I believe with all my heart that there’s nothing I can’t handle as long as I have you by my side. I keep finding that I love you more and more each day I have you in my life.”

“Same. I feel the same way, Matty. I want to be with you on the call tomorrow. Not because I want to make Alex feel bad. I need Alex to see that you and I together will be the best thing in the world for the baby. I want her to understand that she needs to come here and have the baby.”

“We still need to handle the legal stuff that Dad suggested. I don’t trust her. But, on the other hand, I’m committed to paying for everything that’s needed to make sure the baby—our baby has everything he or she needs to be safe and healthy.”

“Of course. I wouldn’t expect anything less from you.”

And that was all that was said. We silently looked out over the water. Matty was in my arms. We finished our cocoa and relaxed into our closeness. Our breathing slowed, and was in sync. We were both just soaking in each other’s presence before we dozed off into a peaceful sleep.

Matty woke up at about 1:00 in the morning. He kissed me on the forehead and woke me up so we could crawl into bed. We undressed and crawled under the covers, entwining our bodies into each other. While there was nothing sexual, I have never felt anything so intimate with the boy I have chosen to spend my life with.

We woke up at 9:00 the next morning, still wrapped around each other’s bodies. I untangled from Matty and made it into the bathroom to relieve myself. I walked out to the kitchen to fire up the coffee and start some breakfast—steel-cut oatmeal with apples and brown sugar, and bacon—gotta have bacon!

Bacon is also the best alarm clock. It didn’t take long for my stunning—and naked—boy to walk into the kitchen. I turned around, and my jaw dropped.

“How the fuck did I rate such a stunning man to spend my entire life with?”

“Bacon. You can not distract me with silly compliments when I smell bacon.”

I dished up our breakfasts, took off my apron, and joined my naked boy at the table.

“How did you sleep, Eddie?”

“I can’t remember having such a good night’s sleep.”

“Yeah. Same. Something weird, though—”

“Could it be that even though we didn’t have sex, I still feel like we made love all night?”

“Exactly! Yes! Last night was so—so—intimate.”

“I was probably the most remarkable feeling I’ve ever had with you, Matty.”

“That doesn’t mean we’re giving up sex!”

“Hell, no! Finish eating breakfast, baby. Then I have a special dessert for you.”

“Who has dessert for breakfast?”

“You will!”

We finished our breakfast amazingly fast. We put the dishes in the dishwasher, and I took Matty into my arms. The kiss we shared was fucking incredible. I could feel the groan from Matty down to my toes. Our hard cocks were fighting for space as we pressed our bodies together.

That amazing kiss never stopped as I backed Matty to the table we had just cleared. Once the back of his thighs met the edge of the table, I eased Matty down—still kissing.

“Oh, fuck! Eddie!”

“Shhhh. Just sit back and let me give you the dessert you deserve.”

I kissed my way down Matty’s neck, making my way to one of his favorite hot spots—that place where his shoulder meets his neck. I kissed and sucked, causing Matty’s cock to throb and leak sweet pre-cum all over his abs. Oh yeah—I also made my mark on Matty’s neck. He’ll have that reminder for a few days! Hehe!

I moved my way down and tortured Matty’s nipples as he kept gushing his pre into the valleys of his six-pack. I was going to need more of that magic nectar and knew just how I was going to get it.

I moved further down Matty’s hot body, avoiding his cock. I latched onto the place where his balls meet his thigh, and I brought back my kissing and sucking action. Matty reached for his cock, but I slapped his hands away.

“Hands behind your head, baby. I’m taking care of my boy this morning!”

“Oh, fuck! I love you, Eddie!”

I took each of Matty’s balls into my mouth, sucking and twirling them around my tongue. I love my baby’s balls! I’m a little jealous that they are totally smooth, and he doesn’t have to shave them like I do!

“Baby, pull your legs up—I need to taste you!”

Well, that didn’t take long! Matty’s smooth pucker was staring me in my face—a face that immediately found itself buried deep in a glorious, muscular ass. I had my work cut out for me. I was gonna tongue-fuck Matty until he dumped enough lube onto his abs!

Hell, my cock was dripping as Matty was moaning and cursing. The only thing my boy likes more than my tongue in his ass is my hard cock in his ass, and after ten minutes of ruthless tonguing, I stood and looked down at my panting boy.

“You ready for your dessert, baby?”

Matty was breathless and could hardly speak. “This hasn’t been dessert?”

I began scooping Matty’s pre into my hand—and onto my throbbing cock. “As any good chef will tell you, the perfect dessert takes plenty of prep work. Have I prepped enough, baby?”

“God almighty, Eddie! Fuck me, already! Use my pre for lube and fuck the shit outta me! Pleeeeease!”

I aimed my now-slicked cock at Matty’s pucker, which was still wet and trembling from—if I do say so myself—my fucking fantastic tongue. I eased the head of my cock into my baby’s hole, fulling intending to drive him crazy with the slowest penetration I could manage. Matty had other ideas, however.

“Fuck. Me. NOWWWW!” Matty threw his powerful legs around my ass and pushed me inside his hot-as-fuck hole. “NOWWWWWWW!”

Well, who was I to not give my boy what he needed? I grabbed his legs, threw them straight up in a “V,” and began pounding his ass harder and faster than I ever have. Actually—so hard and so fast that the legs of the table collapsed underneath us!

I knew Matty was okay when he shouted at the top of his lungs, “Get! Back! In! Me!”

So I did—as fast as I could—and I gave Matty all I had. I pounded into him into the tabletop that was still solid—thank God. There wouldn’t be any splinters in the hottest ass in North Carolina.

“Give me your load, baby. Breed me! Breed me like you’ve never before!”

God! Matty’s dirty talk is the biggest turn-on! In no time, I felt the familiar drawing up of my balls, and the next thing I knew—I was firing jet after jet of hot nut into the boy I loved more than life itself.

“Take my nut, Matty! Fuuuuuuuck! Breeding you, baby!”

I pressed my abs into Matty’s cock while I kept firing my nut. He wrapped his arms and legs around me and screamed, “I loooove yoooooouuuu, Edddiiiiiie Haaaaaamiltoooooon!”

Matty’s scalding nut was firing between us as he held on to me—tighter and tighter. It wasn’t long before we both collapsed onto the tabletop. We were a mass of useless flesh and bone, but we were one.

After a few minutes, Matty came back to his senses and suggested a shower. I lifted myself from the floor, held my hand out to Matty, and pulled him up into my arms.

“How was your dessert, baby?”

“Don’t laugh at me and my weird imagination, okay?”

“Of course not. I would never laugh at you, Matty.”

“You bred me so fucking hard. I want to imagine that it’s this symbolic thing to represent the creation of our baby. How fucking weird is that?”

“It’s—it’s—it’s different, I guess. But in the same kind of weird way—I think—that’s one of the most romantic things I’ve ever heard.”

Fuck me. I got tears in my eyes. Matty wrapped me in his arms, chuckled, and said, “Eddie Hamilton, we’re gonna have a baby!”

Damn, it turned out to be another one of those incredibly intimate moments. We showered, fixed the table, and set up Matty’s laptop for the Zoom meeting with Alex.

She accepted the invitation, and in about ten minutes, our Zoom meeting began. Matty and I decided to share a screen so we could show our unity. Needless to say, she was a little surprised to see me.

“What’s he doing here?”

“Well, Eddie and I go together. We’re going to be married soon, and everything that is said here involves him as much as it does you and I.”

“Eddie, I’m so sorr—”

“No, Alex. There are no apologies. This is all about the future—our future—Matty and me.”

“I don’t understand.”

“You will, Alex. First, I need to know how you are doing with all of this. You look stressed.”

“Ya think? I’m living in a house where my mother wants me to end this pregnancy. In the same house is a father who has all but threatened my life if I do anything to harm the baby. All they do is argue and fight as if I’m not even here. They’re driving me fucking crazy.”

“That’s what I was afraid of. And that’s basically what this is all about.”

“Go on.”

“Okay. Here’s what’s going to happen. You will pack your bags and take an Uber to the Embassy Suites at the Greensboro airport. You’ve been booked on a flight to Charlotte tomorrow morning at 10:43. The details will be waiting for you when you check into the hotel. When you—”

“Matty, you can’t—”

“Wait ‘til I’m finished, Alex.”

I watched the screen and saw Alex sigh. “Go on.”

“When you arrive in Charlotte, you will be met by our mother, Maggie Hamilton. She will take you to the doctor, where you will be tested for the Covid-19 virus. The doctor will also do a general checkup and make sure you and the baby are in good health. You are a little more than eight weeks along, and the doctor will give you your first ultrasound.

“When you are finished with the doctor, you will be taken to the Hamilton home. Until we get the results from your Covid-19 test, you will be quarantined in one of the bedrooms. Then the test results come back negative, which I’m sure they will, you’ll be free to move around the house. This is for the safety and well-being of Nathan, our younger brother. His immune system has been weakened from his cancer treatments.

“You will receive the best medical care, and you will give birth to this child. By then, you will have signed away all parental rights, and you will go back to your life. As far as Eddie and I are concerned, you are a surrogate mother for our child. That being the case, we have learned that in North Carolina, surrogate mothers are compensated between 80 and 120 thousand dollars for their services. You will have $100,000.00 deposited directly into your bank account once the baby is delivered.

“Our father’s attorney is drawing up all the paperwork and will be able to answer any questions you might have. Any questions?”

“I don’t get any say in any of this?”

“Think about it, Alex. I didn’t get any say when you chose to rape me in my sleep.”

“It wasn’t rape, Matty. I would never—”

I wasn’t going to let her go there. “Stop, Alex. According to the law in this state, you did rape Matty. I’m not saying we forgive you, but we are moving on.”

“And if I choose not to agree with this plan you’ve come up with?”

Matty slowly grinned and laid it on the line. “Then I will file rape charges against you. I will still have full parental rights to this child, and I will take you to court and demand full custody. It will not be pretty. If you think your current situation is stressful, you have no idea what you are in for.”

“This isn’t fair, Matty.”

“No, it isn’t. But it’s not about fair. This isn’t about you—or me—or Eddie. This is about the child you are carrying. And I will do everything in my power to make sure this child is brought in to the world with the best medical care possible. Once you deliver my child, you will be taken care of quite nicely so you can move on with your life.”

“You would do that? You would file charges against me?”

“Yes. Without a moment of hesitation, yes.”

“Then—then I guess I’ll be seeing you sometime tomorrow.”

“No, you won’t be seeing much of me—if at all. Eddie and I are sheltering at our lake house north of the city. When this is over, we’ll be moving back into our house, which is not our parents’ house.”

MAGGIE

Being a mother has been overall an easy thing for me over the years. I’ve been blessed with three beautiful children. When Matthew came into our lives, I never considered it anything but the blessing of a fourth child.

But now—the past couple of days have been a test of my resolve. To find out that Matthew, whom I consider a son, was raped in his sleep—well, it’s horrific. I was angry, shocked, and so many other things I can’t begin to say all of them.

On the other hand, I was so proud of the boys and how they have decided to handle this—okay—shocking situation. When Matthew insisted that from this point on, everything is about the baby, I immediately understood the boys’ commitment to this child—this child that will be my first grandchild!

We had another Zoom session with the boys yesterday morning, and all the details for the pregnancy were worked out. Even Nathan helped with what was probably the smartest idea of the entire session. When Matty insisted that Alex see a doctor as soon as she landed, Nathan asked that she be tested for this horrible virus—the Covid-19. He said that before we allow her into our home, we need to make sure she was negative.

Clay came up with the compromise that she self-quarantine in her bedroom until we get the test results. It’s a new world we are living in.

And now I’m on the way to the airport to get Alex and take her to the doctor. It’s so strange not dealing with traffic. It’s even stranger that it only takes me fifteen minutes to get to the airport. I park in the garage, put on my mask, and grab the sign with Alex’s name. We had only met once, but I think it’s unlikely that she would recognize me with the mask.

I get to the waiting area about fifteen minutes before Alex’s flight was to arrive. I wonder if her flight is one of those I’ve seen reported on the news—planes that are all but empty.

The sign flashed that the flight from Greensboro had arrived. About ten minutes later, I saw the young girl with an uncanny likeness to Eddie coming down the escalator. Thankfully, she was also wearing a mask. When she got to the floor, she immediately saw the sign.

“Hi, Mrs. Hamilton. I’m Alex.”

“Welcome to Charlotte, dear. Please call me Maggie—and thank you for choosing to stay with us for a while. Shall we get your bags?”

“Yes, M’am. They said our luggage would be at carousel three. It shouldn’t take very long. There weren’t even ten people on the plane.”

“And thank you for wearing your mask.”

“Matty’s instructions were very clear about that. How is he? I guess he pretty much hates me, huh?”

“Alex, Matty doesn’t hate people. I’ve known him since the day he was born, and he’s never hated a soul. He may hate what happened, but he—and Eddie—have moved on. As far as the boys are concerned, from this point on, it’s all about the baby.”

“I get it. I really do.”

The carousel started moving. Alex said she had two bags. We each took one and rolled them out to the car. She settled into her seat and began to take off her mask.

“I need to ask that you keep the mask on. My youngest son recently went through both chemo and radiation therapy. His immune system has been compromised, and we can’t take any risks until we get the results from your test.”

“Of course. How is he doing?”

“Nathan is doing great. He is such an amazing young man. Through his entire ordeal, Nate only thought of ways he could help other kids in the same situation. He created a YouTube vlog documenting his treatment. It’s remarkable to think about how many kids he helped guide through cancer treatment.”

“That’s—amazing.”

“We’re proud of him—all of our children, really.”

“So, we’re going right to the doctor now?”

“First, we’re going to our family doctor for your Covid-19 test. That won’t take very long at all. Then, we are going to see Dr. Lambert. She’s going to be your OB-GYN. Dr. Lambert is one of the best in the area. You will be in good hands.”

“Okay. What is she going to do today?”

“Dr. Lambert will give you a general exam, and you can probably expect your first ultrasound.”

Alex took in a deep sigh, nodded her head. All I could see were her eyes—and they were clouded with fear and trepidation. It would be a challenge, but my feelings about what she had done to Matthew need to be put out of my mind. My job is to make sure she delivers a healthy baby with as little stress as possible.

We pulled into Dr. Gonzalez’s office. His receptionist said I was to call when we arrived and stay in the car. A nurse would come out and perform the test in the parking lot. I made the call, and in less than five minutes, a thoroughly protected nurse came out to the car.

It took only a couple of minutes to administer the test while I filled out some paperwork. We were soon on our way to Dr. Lambert.

I called the receptionist once we arrived, and she said she would call me when we could go in. The waiting room area was closed to the public. She also wanted to make sure we both had masks on before we went into the office.

It was about twenty minutes before we were finally taken into the examining room. The nurse took Alex’s vitals and got her situated on the table. In about five minutes, Dr. Lambert arrived.

“Good afternoon, ladies. Maggie, it’s nice to see you again. And you must be Alex?”

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“Excellent. I’m going to perform a general exam, and then we’ll get to your sonogram. Sound good?”

While she examined Alex, Dr. Lambert asked if this was her first visit to a doctor for her pregnancy. She said she saw her family physician when her pregnancy test showed positive, but she hadn’t been to one since.

“Alrighty then, everything is looking good. Your pregnancy looks normal and healthy.” Dr. Lambert helped Alex out of the stirrups and off the table. We gathered Alex’s clothes, and she led us to the sonogram room and said her nurse would be there shortly.

It didn’t even take three minutes before the nurse came in.

“Okay, this is going to be a bit cold, but it will become more comfortable as we move on.”

She turned on the equipment and began to apply the gel. She started the sonogram. Now, my medical knowledge is somewhat limited, so when the first thing I hear from a nurse is, ‘hmmmmm,’ I immediately go to the something-is-wrong place.

The nurse pointed to the monitor. “Do you see that? It’s a baby’s heart. It’s beating at just the right pace. Now—” she pointed to another place on the screen. “It’s not quite as clear, but that is most definitely a second heart.”

Alex’s eyes widened. “Wh—what?”

“Yes, dear. You are pregnant with twins!”

Funny how the boys' family grew even more before there was a single contraction! The next chapter is all about good feelings and sweetness! There will be a wonderful, yet very different, wedding. There will be the twins' delivery and an epilogue.

At least Alex is being looked after, so that the twins are born healthy. I hope the epilogue comes soon. I hope that there is going to be a third book in this series.

There is a strong possibility of a third book. However, I have TWO Barnstable books to write! I've already started the book about Noah. The next book will be about Hunter. I also have a few completely new stories brewing in my brain.

I too am sure hoping for a third book to this. I've always Love the Barnstaple Chronicles and so looking for more of Noah. I Love it already and only read the first chapter.

Alex hasn’t given her thoughts about Matty and Eddie raising the twins, and nothing has been said about her parents allowing her to come live in North Carolina until the babies are born. Will we find out the reaction from Alex’s folk about two gay men raising the children?

The guys’ and Alex’s reaction to the pregnancy just prove the old axiom that there are no illegitimate children, only illegitimate parents - in this case, mothers.  I’m proud of them for taking the long view and putting the child first.  Matty definitely has balls for putting Alex‘s feet to the fire over her initial defiance regarding custody. Good for him.  I do think, however, that $100,000 is overly generous considering Alex‘s actions, but I can understand their reasoning.

Twins?!  Yikes.

Outstanding chapter! Alex (AKA the skank) was being obnoxious on the zoom call with the boys and Matty lowered the boom quickly giving her no choices. I’m concerned that she’s so used to being a bitch that she’s going to be a very difficult person during the pregnancy. Maggie’s patience may be sorely tested in this. The sonogram showing twins will make everything more difficult. I’m definitely hoping for a third book in this series, as well as, the next books in the Barnstable series. I’m definitely looking forward to the next chapter! 😃❤️
