A Room with a View

(of the Brooklyn Navy Yard)

— an Irreverent Tale

Amid the darkest of times,

Some books shine through

With warmth, love and optimism.

Those are the works I

Treasure most.

Prologue.

Fated for Greatness

There are those of the opinion, gentle audience, that proximity equals influence, and one particular young man’s father is often heard telling his wife “I told you, Marta, didn’t I? We should have moved to Flatbush before it was too late!”

But, he is only kidding, for his son’s a person he’s always taken immense pride in, and especially so in the light of a recent family tragedy. No, the love he feels for his boy will not change, no matter the amount of joking in which he allows himself to indulge.

These things cross our young hero’s mind as he pauses at the mailbox near his Brooklyn apartment building. Sights and sounds of the busy street fade around him, for in his hands fidget an eight-and-a-half by eleven-inch envelope. At last, he lifts it one final time to kiss for luck. Soon the creaky bin door is pulled, and his manuscript is sent off to meet its fate.

Likewise, perhaps unbeknownst to him, our inexperienced writer is also destined to meet an incredible fate, and I shall leave it up to your judgment to say if – by the conclusion of it – this tale is one fated to stay within your heart and memory.

A dear friend of mine has finally this year got the first book published.  The image of the “finality” of posting the text off resonates.   Good stuff, I am hooked

Thanks for reading and sharing, Gary L. The narrator of this tale has a little bit more to say than usual, so I hope his little contributions continue to add to the narrative's arc of development.

Thanks again!
