Res Publica Christiana - 8. Farewell to Edward

A death poem from Barnaby FitzPatrick to his beloved Edward, some bonus material for chapter 17 for @drsawzall, who seems to appreciate the minor characters. I do enjoy minor players and side stories.

Alas, sweet Edward, fair sovereign of my heart,

In this shadowed hour, I stand bereft, torn apart.

Thine tender years, a fragile bloom untimely severed,

A boy king's reign, by fate's cruel hand endeavored.

O, how oft have I beheld thee, radiant and bright,

A princely visage, bathed in innocence and light.

Thy laughter, a melody that danced upon the air,

Now silenced, as death claims me, a love so rare.

From childhood's embrace, thou didst ascend the throne,

Yet burdened by the crown, a heavy weight unknown.

A regal spirit housed within a fragile frame,

A monarch's duty, thy destiny proclaimed.

Thy scepter, a wand that conjured dreams anew,

Yet in the realm of mortality, dreams bid adieu.

As time's relentless march did steal thine breath away,

Thou, a shattered soul, in grief and mourning sway.

We shared clandestine whispers, love forbidden, secret,

In the shadows, our passion, an affair discreet.

Thine eyes, like azure, reflected boundless skies,

Now closed in eternal rest, as love within me dies.

The tapestry of time unfolds its woven tale,

Yet in thine heart, thy memory shall forever prevail.

In the hallowed halls of history, thy name shall sing,

A requiem for Edward, the boy king,

My everything.

Did he not sneak out and was on his way to sanctuary?

Barnaby died of poison in Chapter 17, you will discover who did it later. The assassin is quite famous

He is still with us, this is Barnaby's death poem. Kind of a farewell to someone you love that will never be heard
