Path Forward - 20. In the Quiet Places of My Devotion
In the Quiet Places of My Devotion
By Brandon Haines
You steady me, Lord, in the quiet places where my fears once gathered, in the corners of my heart I used to keep locked. You whisper, “I am your refuge,” and something inside me finally exhales.
The lines of my life fall softer now, not sharp like they used to be, not cutting, not wild — but drawn by a hand that knows me better than I have ever known myself.
You are the cup I hold with trembling fingers, the inheritance I never earned, the goodness that keeps finding me even when I lose my way.
I bless You in the night hours when old memories rise like ghosts, and You remind me gently that I do not walk alone, that my story is not abandoned ground.
My heart rests secure — not because I am strong, but because You are near. Not because I understand, but because You remain.
And so I lift my eyes to the path You’ve set before me, a path that glows with quiet promise, a path where even my broken places learn how to sing again.
Lord, in the stillness where my heart finally breathes, I place my story back into Your hands. You have walked with me through shadows, waited for me in the locked rooms of my past, and spoken peace into the places I feared to touch.
Teach me to rest in the nearness of Your presence. Teach me to trust the lines You are drawing, the ones that lead me toward healing, toward wholeness, toward the quiet promise of a life held by You.
Let every broken place in me learn the sound of Your voice until even my wounds begin to sing again. And as I walk the path You’ve set before me, steady my steps, soften my heart, and keep me close.
For You are my refuge, my portion, my peace — and I am safe in Your keeping. Amen.
