My Poems, Satires & Other Lyrical Nonsense - 9. WW1 - 100 Years Gone

Tomorrow: One-Hundred-Years ago WW1 had its ceasefire. Considering this milestone I decided to write this short piece about the moment.

Check out on my website for Light The Night; a Novella which is on Amazon. The story revolves around two mischievous boys as they go about their adventures and rekindle a broken friendship on Halloween night.

Here I am a man standing at the divergent pathway of insanity.

Below the swamped-out tracks of a passing wagon engraved its nature into the soft mud.

A listless hand hopped as it hung from the rear of the dark stained floor of the chariot which would house a dozen or so bodies of young men and boys who fought for a foolish man's cause.

No better than a pawn for chess; innocent souls took to the battleground for reasons they could not quite understand.

Fought tirelessly for morals they could not quite understand; before dying for a reason what could not be realized.

Is one man’s life worth 37 million? The world agreed and all obliged; evidently, the bloodshed of so many people was backed with none-other than men with hot-tempered decisions and not much reflection.

Nobody congratulates those who won the blood sport like a game of chess.

Devastation is the only thing that remains to show how brutal and inhumane humans truly are. War does not determine who is stronger, has larger numbers or better-equipped weaponry.

War has no time for commendable actions; only those who continue to carry on that labored breathing, with a heart aching for home.
