Poetry (Short's) - 3. Chapter 3 Regret

Have you ever felt sorry for something you did... ever long for a old love?
Regret

I see you
happy and pure
without a care in the world
shining like the sun in the sky.

my eyes
long for yours
but I know better than to look
into them, to fall deep into your soul

is to hurt you again.

I cry for you at night as the tears fall without restraint
my voice catches in my throat for I can no longer call your name
my heart is dying from my own foolish rage
I have lost one more precious than all the gold on earth
One more pure than a flawless diamond shining like gold

I cry tears of longing

never again
will I feel the beat of your heart
never again
will your fingers so tender caress my face
never again
will your breath touch my skin

never to hold you the pain is more than I can bear
it screams across my heart scorching where it touches
leaving nothing behind but burned pieces
of what was once a love so strong and innocent

memories flood my mind of your arms around me
your breath on my face your fingers running over my body
but alas the memories bring only pain as the good is replaced
by a pain of my own making oh how I long for
the touch of your lips to mine and the heat of your body
driving the cold away

I know it never will be the same

I write
with a heart
heavy in guilt and pain
sweet they
race from the flesh
pierced by pain’s blunt edge
joy replaces
guilt for soon it will all end

the longing will no longer break me
the pain of loss no longer weaken me
and guilt will no longer enslave me
free at last I cry a last tear

as sweet darkness engulfs me…
