I know the truth about you 2. Jack and his world

   (4 reviews)
Genres: General Fiction,
Sub-genres: Coming of Age

We all face a journey to find ourselves, our truth. Some get there early, others can never face the truth, and then there are those like him. The one on the edge of the dance floor, in the corner of the bar, watching, waiting, hoping. This is Jack's first story.

Set in 1982 in a British university town.

Based on real experiences but very much a fictional version of Jack's life.
Please listen to I know the truth about you before, during, or after reading.
Be advised that there is a dark moment about the character’s past which emerges in one short, marked, section.

Another entertaining and thought provoking read from @Gary L, a relative newcomer to this storytelling caper, not that it shows given the polished and assured manner in which he writes.

This story delves into the life of a young man facing challenges in accepting his sexuality. Self-doubt and a prior experience are his foes, foes to be overcome if he is to become the person he is meant to be.

Terrific story Gary.

Response from the author:

Thank you so much.  It was a labour of love!

An excellent 'coming out' piece. However, for Jack, it's more like being dragged out. It's never easy becoming yourself, and Jack has to walk the steep and bumpy road.  You need to read the story to find out how he navigates his world.

I recommend this excellent short story.

Response from the author:

Thank you so much.   I had all finished months ago apart from the event in the past.   Sadly, that part was true and it freaked me out a bit even though it was 2/3 of my life ago.  🤗

The kind of story that makes me want to scream out loud, not because I dislike it, quite the contrary, because it's too real and frustratingly so. Our protanganist is missing out on his life as a gay man. A paradox of living in the last century perhaps less so today. The choice is stark, come out or stay in the closet, live your life or hide yourself.

You will have to read this short story to see what our protanganist decides, which way he jumps.

The narrative is well written, nicely described, and a definite recommendation, even more so because it's based on real events. Don't miss out!

Response from the author:

Thank you so much!  Sadly, it was only when I was teaching years later that I got the past sorted.
