2012 - Spring - It Wasn't Me Entry

Hey Isreal - 1. Hey Isreal

Hey Isreal

I remember thinking that I was better than you

And I had the right to tease you

I would even invite you over on Saturday nights to drink beer with me ‘til eleven PM

Then

When you left

I would call my boyfriend to pick me up and I would not return home ‘til Sunday afternoon

And

On weekdays

When my boyfriend was going to see me

I would call you and would tell you that you couldn’t see me that afternoon

You did not engage me the last time we were together

You never engaged me actually

But you did show up one summer afternoon

When I told you not to

I wanted to pick a fight with you that burning afternoon

You took off your belt

I wanted you to feel my wrath

You took off your shoes

I laughed at your stupidity

And your socks came off

I did not understand your actions

You unbuttoned your shirt and took it off

You did these as

I yelled one insult after another

You did these actions on my lawn!

On my front lawn!

I still wanted to make you mad

So I started pushing against your bear chest

I so wanted you to base yourself as I was insulting you

Your eyes told me that you adored me

I wanted you to slap me!

I wanted to feel that you cared!

Your hands uncombed your hair

Then you got into your VW Jetta

It drove away slowly

Leaving all the wear behind

It was you who loved me

It was you who needed somebody

I should have been looking for you then

But now I have lost you

I’m sorry

Really I am

I should have been yesterday

Who I am today

The joys of growing up and learning the lessons we do. We are not who we were, but then again we are not yet who we will be. Interesting poem. Sorry for your pain.

Simple and emotive, we all learn as we grow older that mistakes haunt us. I wish I had taken more chances too with guys I knew, but age gives us wisdom too late to make things right.
