Under a canopy of fluorescing stars that were all too quick to fade.
The stars were bright that evening. They were sat together under the sky.
‘The skies are multicoloured. Why Jarrod?’ The child was worried.
‘Because the stars are moving. See a shooting star.’ The child looked in wonder.
‘Oh wow. Do we live on a star?’
‘No. The sun is a star. We live near one. It’s amazing isn’t it?’
‘Yes it is.’ Jarrod pointed. ‘Look one of them is fading.’
An explosion of light. It was a bright explosion of many colours. Then it faded to black.
‘That is when a star dies.’
‘Isn’t dying a bad thing.’ The child tugged on his older brother’s shirt.
‘Everything goes through it. It’s just part and parcel of what we call life’.
Jarrod smiled and fussed his brother’s hair. The canopy of fluorescing stars, in the child’s eyes, were all too quick to fade.
