Poems of Love - 2. The Setting

Well, here it is, you’re here
Born in the world, beautiful and healthy
Already crying, asking for help from those
Around you, you’re calm, you found family

Years go by and you’re a young adult
You have the courage to talk to another young adult
Both of you are nervous, sweating, shaking even
Stumbling over words until something clear comes out
Common ground, a similar interest, followed by

Smiles and plans to bond over that interest
Parents see that sparkle but you keep it secret
You have the courage to talk to grown adults
Asking for permission to bring your guest
You chanced the sparkle, the other young adult

You put on nicer clothes, the best accessories
All to make the best possible impressions
Your families meet each other
You sit across from one another
Night of laughter

Plans, arrangements to meet again
For a foundation of trust among the families
It had been planted, now for the question
Friends? Dating? Yes or No?
