Fractions for fun - 7. Doll

In response to the Newletter Game "The Two-Five of the Twelfth Month Writing Challenge" where writers were given three random, Holiday related words and then asked to write a story 100- 500 words, using only of one beat words. I got doll, wreath and pud. It turned out a bit darker than expected...

”Doll…” A whine to his voice sets her off.

“Shut up!” She turns her back to sulk.

“No more pud, you hear?” A sigh slips from his lips as he can’t hold it in. “It’s too strong.”

The room is rife with the scent of rum. That darn cake with loads of drinks to wash it down have wrecked their yule. Good thing the kids are in bed and won’t hear them fight.

“I’ll eat what I want.” Her fair hair picks up the lights from the tree, all red, green and blue. Pale skin joins in and adds to the scene. Such a beaut, but too fond of booze. It breaks his heart.

“You are drunk.” The words are out and there’s no way back now.

The cake flies through the air, as she hurls it with great force. A splat right in the midst of their wreath puts an end to its trip. With a thud, it hits the floor. A spot left on the wall will tell the tale of this eve for years to come. Such nights of gloom strung like black pearls one by one.

“There! All done!” With glee, she grins at him. This fake mask hides her true mood, but cracks can be seen. So fine they would be missed but for his sharp eyes and wise heart. He’s got his work cut out for him. Will she trust him? If not, they are doomed.

Did I miss any words? I've tested each word by tapping my thigh. Still, I'm nervous my skills are lacking when it comes to these kinds of beats...

You didn't miss any that I noticed ;)  Great job.  This was a tough challenge.

Um, that’s not what I’d heard ‘pud’ meant…  ;–)

The Oxford Dictionary (both the US & UK versions) say the origin of that definition is:

Quote

mid 17th cent.: from Latin pudenda (membra) ‘(parts) to be ashamed of’, neuter plural of gerundive of pudere ‘be ashamed’.

Kinda changes the tone of the whole story in a more sapphic direction!  ;–)
