Cyn's Poetry Collection - 11. Chapter 11

My best friend of 16 years died suddenly of heart failure August 12, 2021 at 31 years old. This very non-rhyming poem is for her. In loving memory of Melanie George, March 1, 1990 to August 12, 2021.

Please do not fear for me, my friend.

I'll be okay in time.

I'll never stop missing or loving you,

But this grief I feel will eventually lessen.

It won't ever go away completely,

But I'll be happy again someday.

You were my best friend for half my life,

So don't fret if I'm sad longer than you'd like.

You've been a huge part of my life for so long,

I have to learn what my life will be like with you gone.

I'm going to cry for you a while longer,

Until I learn to breathe knowing you no longer can.

Know I'm trying, though it's hard.

I still have moments where I want to tell you things,

Only to remember that I can't anymore.

Times like those make the pain fresh again.

This empty space you left in my heart

Will eventually scab over and scar.

I'll keep your memory with me forever,

But I'll let go of the pain someday.
