Rising Star

Recently I checked out my status and reputation points.

Now I know I'll sound egocentric when I say this, which I have proved to be in previous posts, but I think I'm getting popular.

With a reputation of 129 with the caption 'Moving on up', is say that is a good on-track position to be in. Some other reputation levels are below that, which I'm confused about for some as they are really cool people.

I think it's my story. Every chapter published gets a healthy growth spurt from the reputation level. I get reviews for every chapter, there are nearly 20,000 views...I haven't compared this with anyone else, but it sounds bloody damn good to me. Think about it: That's 20,000 different people at least viewing the first chapter of my story (although I'm not quite sure if it includes some bozo going into my story over and over again).

I think that's something to be proud of. But it's all thanks to you guys! Without you, is be nothing and have no story to share my writing with.

So thank you. I mean it

While it's great to be getting reviews and 'likes' from posting new material, I'd caution against putting too much emphasis on the importance of popularity. Not simply because individual viewings of the story page and chapter pages are not unique in your tally of page views (i.e. the same person viewing the same page on a return visit to the site can count as an additional viewing) but also because reputation can be gained from other places too. You could be a social butterfly and never have written a single word as an author, yet have hundreds or thousands of rep points from nothing more than interaction on forums, blogs and similar.

Please don't take my comments as discouragement though! It is meant as the exact opposite, just with a caveat. There is nothing wrong with wanting, nor enjoying, popularity. On the contrary, positive feedback is great, be it reviews or 'upvotes.' However, if your story is something you are enjoying writing and others reading -- and it seems you are off to a good start -- then my advice is this: focus on making it the best piece of fiction you can. Forget the rep number and just let the creativity flow and your brain go to work. Captivate the minds and hearts of your audience, and the rest will follow.
