Rob says... It was hard picking one. It's the opening of Chapter 5, where Buzz meets Jed. I like it because it shows the power of their attraction, but then goes to show how messed up Buzz is, the way he was brought up, hiding his feelings vs Jed, who grew up in a more open, modern thinking home.

Buzz stood off by himself with a plate of food. He was grateful to get away from his brother as well as his fiancée—just thinking the word sent a violent shudder through his body—even if was for just a few moments.

 

The food was damn good, and there was plenty of it. He speared a meatball with his fork and brought it up to his mouth. Before he could bite into it, his senses went crazy.

 

The sexiest, manliest smell infiltrated his nose, strong enough that it was like a slap across his face. His eyes dilated and his dick began to go hard. The telltale charge flowed across his skin, signaling the beginning of a shift. He hadn’t come so close to losing control like this since puberty. As he struggled to reel his beast in, he looked up and drew in a sharp breath.

 

Standing a few feet away was a huge man. And that man looked at Buzz like he was going to eat him alive. Determining a shifter’s age by appearance could be difficult, but the guy seemed to be in his late teens like Buzz, possibly early twenties. Though he may have been young like Buzz, he was much bigger: both taller and wider, built like a tank. He was definitely not a city boy; he looked like he rolled in straight from the country. And he was gripping the crotch of his blue jeans, holding onto a huge package like he thought it might get away.

 

To Buzz’s eyes, he was unbelievably good-looking. He looked like sex on a stick. Well, not so much a stick, but more like a tree trunk. He had a big barrel chest and massive arms, with shoulders that practically ate his neck. His hair was auburn red, cut short, and he had a thick, wide patch of hair on his chin to go with his heavy sideburns. The tip of his tongue ran across red lips as he stared back at Buzz.

 

Though he was young, Buzz could tell he was a powerful wolf. Not an alpha, but maybe a beta. Or he could be an enforcer given his size.

 

The man moved forward until he stood directly in front of Buzz, getting in his personal space.

 

“Hello,” he said, his voice all quiet and husky and sexy. He had a feral grin on his face, the tips of his descended canines barely visible below his upper lip.

 

“I’m Jed.”

 

Buzz lowered the fork onto his plate, and managed to swallow the knot in his throat. The man’s voice made his dick throb, and he was sure he was going to have a wet spot in his shorts. “I’m Buzz.”
