Well it can be argued [and has been] that there is no such thing as real altruism -- that people do "altruistic" things merely because it makes them feel good about themselves.

The filthy rich are always the despots, even when they wear a pretty face. You only become a billionaire by exploiting the workers and hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma and never giving me a bunch of money so I don't have to work.
